Fantasy Take: Peterka Traded to Boston

The Boston Bruins have acquired winger JJ Peterka from the Utah Mammoth for a 2026 first-round pick (number 23, which Utah later used to trade to Detroit for goalie Sebastian Cossa) and a 2028 first-round pick (top 10-protected).
Peterka finished his one and only season in Utah with 25 goals and 47 points. The point total was a 21-point drop from his career high of 68 points in 77 games with Buffalo, so the Mammoth had to have been expecting a little more when they acquired Peterka from the Sabres last offseason for Josh Doan and Michael Kesselring. Peterka's playoff numbers (6 GP, 0 PTS, 13:38 TOI) might have been even more telling as to how far he fell out of favor in Utah.
Peterka will receive a fresh start in Boston. The Bruins are in need of a top-6 forward, as the scoring thins out after David Pastrnak, Morgan Geekie, and Pavel Zacha. (Viktor Arvidsson is expected to hit free agency.) One way that his fantasy value may recover with the Bruins is with power-play time. He was generally not used on the Mammoth's top power play, registering just five power-play points in 2025-26 after recording 18 the season before in Buffalo. On the Bruins, Peterka has the offensive upside to slot in on the top power play again. The fact that the Bruins invested two first-round picks in Peterka also makes high usage more likely.
Peterka still recorded 2.2 PTS/60 despite the disappointing 2025-26 season, which should mean he at least maintains a decent floor. Add in additional power-play production and that floor should be a 25-goal, 50-point pace. The Bruins aren't brimming with offensive talent beyond Pastrnak, so 70 points should be the ceiling. That is much more likely to happen if Peterka lines up with Pastrnak at even strength. Consider this trade a win if you roster Peterka, though.
