Fantasy Take: Schwartz Signs with the Avalanche

After making some cap space by moving out Jack Drury last week, the Avalanche used most of that up by adding some scoring on the wing in Jaden Schwartz.
What the Avalanche Get:
The Avs take a chance on Schwartz who hasn't paced for more than 51 points since the Covid-shortened 2019-2020 season. Schwartz is also a band-aid-boy who has played 70 games only three times in the last decade, so there's not just risk with the ability, but the availability as well. The best sign though is that upon returning from injury near the end of last season, Schwartz put up five points in his last six games.
Under the hood, Schwartz's numbers from last season indicate that while he may have gotten a little bit of puck luck, he also did so while seeing some defensive usage, which he likely won't have to shoulder (as much) in Colorado.
Schwartz should end up in the middle-six, flanking either Brock Nelson or Nazem Kadri, which, along with the rest of the Colorado lineup around him, should be an upgrade from his time in Seattle. If Schwartz can stay healthy then his 2024-25 season should provide some indication of his approximate ceiling. That would be just under 30 goals, around 50 points, and then 200 shots and 50 Hits to go with it.
Overall, the location change helps Schwartz, but his fantasy value will once again come down to how healthy he can be, and it’s unlikely that he impacts anyone else enough to really change their fantasy value.
