The trade:
The New York Rangers have traded center Vincent Trocheck to the Utah Mammoth for defenseman Sean Durzi, forward prospect Cole Beaudoin, and a 2027 third-round pick.
The Mammoth receive:
Trocheck, who finished 2025-26 with 16 goals and 53 points in 67 games, which was a slightly higher scoring pace than his 59 points in 82 games in 2024-25. Trocheck has added value in bangers leagues, as he consistently registers at least 150 hits per season. He is also an asset in the faceoff circle with a high faceoff volume as well as a consistent 55%-plus success rate.
The Rangers receive:
Durzi, who recorded 27 points in 60 games for the Mammoth in 2025-26, averaging between 30 to 40 points over his last two seasons. He has totaled just six power-play points in 90 games over the past two seasons, while his hits and blocked shots total remain relatively low for a defenseman.
Beaudoin, who racked up 88 points in 54 games with the OHL's Barrie Colts in 2025-26. The 24th overall pick in 2024, Beaudoin also made a name for himself at the most recent World Junior Championship for Canada with seven points in seven games.
Fantasy analysis:
Assuming Nick Schmaltz moves back to the wing, Trocheck appears to fit in as a top-6 center along with Logan Cooley for the Mammoth. As for the power play, Utah mainly used a PP1 of Cooley, Schmaltz, Clayton Keller, Dylan Guenther, and Mikhail Sergachev last season. Cooley and Schmaltz both finished below 50% in faceoffs in 2025-26, so it's possible that Trocheck bumps one of these players out of PP1. Cooley finished with just 10 power-play points in 54 games, so he could be the odd man out on PP1 if everyone is in the lineup. However, Trocheck's two-way ability could result in his focus also turning to defensive situations, which would reduce his value slightly.
Anders Lee, who signed a three-year contract with Utah on July 1, also has an outside chance of factoring into the top 6 and the power-play equation. The Mammoth are also currently contemplating what to do about Barrett Hayton, who has signed a one-year offer sheet for $4.775 million with New Jersey. If the Hayton offer isn't matched, Trocheck and Cooley could receive a bit more icetime as a result.
On the Rangers' side, J.T. Miller should move over to play center so that the Rangers continue to have two top-6-level centers in Miller and Mika Zibanejad. On the top power play, the Rangers might be swapping recently acquired Pavel Dorofeyev in for Trocheck. Alexis Lafreniere should be assured of a spot on the Rangers' top power play, assuming the Rangers don't acquire any other top-6 forwards.
Durzi is a right-shot defenseman who can play in a top-four role. Expect him to slot behind fellow right-shot d-man Adam Fox at both even strength and on the power play. His value should remain relatively unchanged with the trade.
Players this helps, in order:
Lafreniere
Players this hurts, in order:
Cooley
Trocheck
