We are now into the first full week of NHL fantasy hockey, and I'm sure the waiver wire is already starting to get busy with players finding the back of the net. One of those names could be Cole Perfetti, while Stuart Skinner also made a case for himself on the backend. Of course, Connor Hellebuyck remains suspended by the team after not reporting to camp and has made it clear that he wants out. In the meantime, life goes on, and the Winnipeg Jets picked up their first win of the season with a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings.
The Jets scored all three of their goals on the power play, with Kyle Connor leading the way with two goals and an assist. Josh Morrissey added two assists and led the Jets with seven shots on goal, while the aforementioned Perfetti finished with a goal and two assists. Perfetti is only 20% owned in Yahoo! leagues, and I suspect that number will climb fairly quickly. A lot of fantasy managers have been waiting for him to break out, and although it is still a small sample size, Perfetti has seen time on the top unit alongside Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor. If that deployment sticks, his roster percentage should continue to climb.
Viktor Arvidsson scored his first goal as a Red Wing on the power play and played 21:24, while Emmitt Finnie also scored and won eight of 13 faceoffs. Michael Brandsegg-Nygard added an assist along with six shots and four hits.
Lucas Raymond and Alex DeBrincat were held off the scoresheet, but Detroit spent far too much time killing penalties, which ultimately decided the game.
Skinner also deserves some credit, stopping 33 of 35 shots for a .943 SV%. With Hellebuyck still out of the picture, this is exactly the type of performance Winnipeg will need from its goaltending.

The New York Rangers picked up a 4-2 win over the Utah Mammoth, scoring three times in the third period to pull away despite being outshot 30-22. Vladislav Gavrikov opened the scoring in the first period, with Adam Fox picking up the assist. Gavrikov added another point in the third, assisting on J.T. Miller's goal to finish the night with a goal and an assist. Fox also recorded a point, although the Rangers struggled on the power play, finishing 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
Meanwhile, Igor Shesterkin who scored a goal in his previous game, was hoping to find the scoresheet again. While he didn't manage another goal, he did pick up an assist on Eeli Tolvanen's empty-netter, giving him points in back-to-back games and wins.
This is a different-looking Rangers team early in the season, as they have now won three straight games, including two at home. For some perspective, New York didn't pick up its second home win last season until November 24. It's still early, but this is an encouraging start for a team looking to put last season behind them.
The Mammoth's power play has been running hot at 66.7% through the first week of the season, and that continued against the Rangers, with Nick Schmaltz scoring Utah's lone power-play goal off a Clayton Keller rebound. Utah finished 1-for-2 with the man advantage, with Klayton Keller being red hot to start the season with four of his five points coming on the power play.

The Kraken posted back-to-back 6-1 victories over Calgary to start the season and have now outscored the Flames 12-2 in their first two meetings. Mackie Samoskevich was the big fantasy name from this one, scoring twice for his first goals with Seattle. I'm not going to read too much into one two-goal performance, but Samoskevich is only 2% rostered and is someone I would keep an eye on, especially if he continues to see top-six and power-play opportunities alongside Matty Beniers and Jared McCann.
Berkly Catton also had a strong night, finishing with a goal and an assist. The Kraken were spreading the scoring around, which gives several players an opportunity to provide fantasy value rather than relying on one line to carry the offense. Jordan Eberle, Shane Wright and Bobby McMann also registered a goal each. Joey Daccord also deserves some attention in the win. He has now won both of his starts against Calgary, stopping 58 of 56 shots. It's obviously too early to expect that level of performance to continue, but if he starts seeing a larger share of the workload, there could be some fantasy value here.
Calgary, meanwhile, has scored just three goals through three games. Morgan Frost's third-period power-play goal prevented another shutout. With the Flames' power play ranking 31st last season at 16.2%, I'm not rushing to add their secondary offensive players just yet.

The Anaheim Ducks improved to 2-0-0 to start the season with an overtime win over the Panthers. The duo of Cutter Gauthier and Leo Carlsson had their fingerprints all over it. Cutter Gauthier kicked off the season right where he left off scoring twice on the power play and added an assist for a three-point night. Gauthier led Anaheim with 41 goals and 69 points last season, including 11 power-play goals, so seeing him heavily involved with the man advantage is exactly what fantasy managers want to see. Leo Carlsson also had a strong night, finishing with three assists and now has five points through Anaheim's first two games. Gauthier and Carlsson were the beneficiaries, while Mikael Granlund scored the overtime winner. Lukas Dostal had a solid outing and has now won both of his starts to begin the season.
Aaron Ekblad was out of the Panthers lineup for personal reasons, while with Aleksander Barkov out, Florida's top line looked a little different, with Carter Verhaeghe and Sam Bennett skating alongside Matthew Tkachuk. Verhaeghe also got the first look on the top power-play unit in Barkov's spot. Brad Marchand returned to the lineup as well and was slotted onto the second power-play unit while skating with Brady Tkachuk and Sam Reinhart. The Panthers' power play is now sitting at a horrendous 5.9% to start the season, it cannot possibility get any worse which is something fantasy managers should keep an eye on, although it may not flow as smoothly with Barkov out.

Mitch Marner scored his first goal of the season and Marc Gatcomb scoring the eventual game-winner over the Canucks. Marner had been held off the scoresheet in Vegas' first two games, so getting the first goal out of the way is a good sign, especially with his continued deployment on the top power-play unit. Victor Olofsson also scored on the man advantage, Jack Eichel was held off the scoresheet, but did register an assist and has four points through the team's first two games. Adin Hill stopped 17 of 19 shots for the win and helped Vegas continue its strong start on the penalty kill.
The Canucks, meanwhile, managed just 19 shots, although Paul Cotter continued his impressive start with his fourth goal of the season. Cotter now has six points through four games, making him one of the more interesting early waiver-wire names.
