The Montreal Canadiens got some positive injury news as captain Nick Suzuki was back in the lineup on Thursday night. He had missed six games with a hand injury after blocking a shot a little over two weeks ago, which was his first stretch of games missed in seven years. He was back in his usual top line and top PP roles for the team.

Montreal rebounded from their historic choke on Tuesday night by earning a 5-4 overtime win at home to Utah on Thursday night. Cole Caufield did the overtime honours, scoring the OT winner on a 2-on-1, and finished with six shots, a block, two PIMs, and a hit.

Suzuki made a triumphant return with a goal, two assists (one PP), four shots, and two hits in over 20 minutes of ice time. Kirby Dach had his best game of the season with a goal and an assist, and Arber Xhekaj also scored. Adam Engstrom scored his first career NHL goal to tie the game 4-4 in the third period.

Jakub Dobes gave up four goals on 20 shots but earned the win.

The big fantasy performance in the game was from Logan Cooley who posted his third hat trick in the last five games, adding an assist on a Nick Schmaltz PP goal, totaling three shots, two PIMs, and two hits. Cooley has 13 goals in his last eight games (!).

Mikhail Sergachev wound up with an assist, two blocks, two PIMs, and a hit in the loss. Sebastian Cossa was in net again and gave up five goals on 35 shots.

There was a positive update on Minnesota defenceman Brock Faber:

Faber has been out all season with the skull fracture suffered during the preseason. That he's back at this point is great to see, though there's obviously no firm timeline on when he'll return to game action.

The Calgary Flames round out the positive injury news with an update on goaltender Devin Cooley:

Calgary is at home to Anaheim on Friday night.

Pavel Zacha scored twice and had a pair of penalty minutes in Boston's 6-2 win over Pittsburgh on Thursday night. Morgan Geekie had a goal and an assist while Elias Lindholm, Fraser Minten, and Mark Kastelic all scored. After starting the season with one goal in 14 games, Geekie has now scored in three straight outings.

Hampus Lindholm had a solid multi-cat night with an assist, a shot, two blocks, and two hits. Michael DiPietro got the start in net and earned the win by stopping 16 of 18 shots.

Justin Brazeau scored in his second game of the season and Nick Robertson had the other Penguins tally. Defenceman Kaeden Korczak assisted both goals, had a couple of blocks, and added a hit in a good multi-cat night.

Arturs Silovs gave up six goals on 24 shots for the loss.

The New York Rangers turned a 2-1 deficit with 6:30 left in the game into a 3-2 regulation win thanks to goals from Pavel Dorofeyev (PP) and Tye Kartye. Kartye finished the game with a pair of shots and three hits in over 20 minutes of ice time. The other goal was scored by Gabe Perreault.

Adam Fox managed a pair of helpers (one PP), one shot, and three blocks. At the time, it made Fox the fourth defenceman with at least 20 points this season alongside Evan Bouchard (28), Quinn Hughes (22), and Mikhail Sergachev (20).

Dylan Garand was solid for the Rangers, allowing just two goals on 25 shots. James Reimer was put on waivers so this is truly Garand's net for the foreseeable future.

Simon Benoit and Noel Acciari scored for the Flyers. Joseph Woll earned the loss, giving up three goals on 27 shots.

The Winnipeg Jets laid a beatdown on Vancouver, as many teams have this year, by a 6-2 score. Dawson Mercer had a goal and an assist (PP), as did Mark Scheifele, and the latter had three shots, a block, and a pair of hits in a very good multi-cat night. Alex Iafallo (PP), Cole Koepke, Mario Ferraro, and Neal Pionk all scored as well. Pionk ended the night with three shots, two blocks, and three hits in a great multi-cat outing.

Stuart Skinner held the Canucks to two goals on 26 shots for the win.

Andrei Svechnikov had a goal, an assist, and seven shots as the Carolina Hurricanes took a 5-3 win over the New York Islanders. That gives Svechnikov 16 points and 51 shots in 18 games on the season.

William Carrier and Jalen Chatfield also posted a goal and an assist while Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Logan Stankoven also scored. Including the 2026 postseason, Stankoven has 29 goals in his last 45 games, or an 84-game pace of 54 goals. He is still just 23 years old.

K'Andre Miller had an assist with a pair of shots while Brandon Bussi took the win with 24 saves on 27 shots.

Brayden Schenn and Victor Eklund both posted a goal and an assist for the Islanders with Mitchell Chaffee scored the other goal. Eklund finished the game with three shots, a block, and three hits.

Braeden Bowman and Trevor Connelly both scored for Vegas as they battled back from a 1-0 third-period deficit to take a 2-1 regulation win in Detroit. Victor Olofsson was back in the lineup for the Golden Knights and assisted the Bowman goal. He skated on Tomas Hertl's third line and was back on the top PP unit in place of Connelly.

Rasmus Andersson had a solid multi-cat night with an assist, four shots, and two blocks. Carter Hart earned the win in goal by holding the Red Wings to one tally on 26 shots.

Anton Johansson scored the lone Red Wings goal. Daniil Tarasov took the hard-luck loss by giving up two goals on 34 shots.

The St. Louis Blues battled back from a 4-1 deficit with 8:45 remaining in the game to tie their Thursday night matchup with the New Jersey Devils 4-4, but Jesper Bratt's third goal of the season pushed the Devils to a 5-4 overtime win. Bratt assisted on an earlier goal from Anthony Mantha, who had two goals, an assist, three shots, and a hit in the game. That gives Mantha 12 points in 17 games in a much reduced role compared to last year.

Jack Hughes managed two assists and six shots while Luke Hughes had a goal, an assist, two shots, and a hit as the brothers were productive on Thursday night.

Connor Hellebuyck gave up more than three goals for the first time as a Devil, but still earned his fourth win in as many starts.

Mason McTavish totaled a goal, an assist, four shots, two PIMs, and two hits in a losing effort. Robert Thomas and Dalibor Dvorsky scored the other Blues goals. Defenceman Philip Broberg registered a goal, an assist, three shots, and a block. Broberg is up to 14 points in 17 games, a nice 69-point pace.

Jordan Binnington was in net for the Blues and gave up five goals on 36 shots. That makes 26 goals against in six games, which would be fine if it was 1986.

Roman Kantserov's eighth goal of the season (leading all rookies) broke Andrei Vasilevskiy's shutout in the final minute of Tampa Bay's home game against Chicago, but the Lightning still earned the 4-1 win. Ilya Mikheyev scored twice on three shots against his former team while Victor Hedman (PP) and Ryan McDonagh also scored. Erik Carnak posted a pair of assists, three shots, and two hits in the victory.

Arvid Soderblom was in net for the Blackhawks and gave up all four goals on 35 shots against.

*

Zach Werenski finally scored his first goal of the year with 3:14 remaining in Columbus' home game against Dallas, tying their matchup at a goal apiece. The Blue Jackets took the extra point with a shootout win. Werenski totaled five shots and a block in nearly 30 minutes of ice time. Goaltender Cam Talbot stopped 27 of 28 shots during regular play, and both shots in the shootout, for his fifth win of the year.

Mikko Rantanen scored the lone Stars goal. With Miro Heiskanen injured, Thomas Harley was on the top PP unit, skated 28:31, and totaled five shots and three blocks in the loss. Casey DeSmith was in net for the Stars and took the hard-luck shootout loss, allowing just one goal on 30 shots.
