Daily Fantasy Hockey Tips (DFS)

I might be getting the hang of this. Tuesday was my third “win” in a row, although not as much as last week, simply doubling my $4 bet. No, I didn’t have any of Anton Forsberg’s shutout, or Matthew Tkachuk’s or Tage Thompson’s hat tricks, so the top tier was far above me.  Moving to [...]

The Winter Classic was indeed a good and truly “classic” and entertaining game, unless you’re a Penguins fan. The Pens are now 1-4-2 in their last 7 games, and the team that was 18-8-4 as of December 15th is now struggling to hold onto the second wild card spot in the East.  Sidney Crosby and [...]

First, to continue my series of “What’s Wrong With…,” today’s focus is on the Florida Panthers.   Last year’s Presidents’ Trophy winners are struggling to even stay relevant at this point, currently nine points out of a playoff spot and 12th in the Eastern Conference - as Matthew Tkachuk aptly put it, “the playoffs start now.” [...]

The NHL season is just about at the 40% mark for 2022-23, but most of our fantasy leagues have hit the halfway milestone. In a standard 12-team league, we’ve just finished round #11, meaning you have opposed each of your mates once. Time to take account - are you comfortably in, fighting for a playoff [...]

I saved Christmas week for my “What’s Wrong With…” piece on the Colorado Avalanche - I planned to be charitable until some of the research and statistics that follow. Wrong, you say?  The Avs have been considered strong options, if not favorites, to repeat as Stanley Cup champions! Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, Mikko Ranranen, those [...]

Last night, I stayed up a bit past my bedtime to watch the rare dual-shutout game between the New York Islanders and Colorado Avalanche.  Two comments - first, the outstanding save by Ilya Sorokin with just six seconds left in OT, just wow. https://www.puckfeed.com/videos/14322753 Second, Evan Rodrigues won the night’s first star for his shootout [...]

My Tuesday DFS picks hit the nail squarely, leading off with the mismatch of Anaheim and Toronto. I’d obviously have won a larger part of the pot if I was clairvoyant (Connor Timmins’s three assists?), yeah. But a win is a win.  Moving on to my Thursday feature of “What’s Wrong With… (2022 playoff teams),” [...]

Last night’s games were a fantasy-hockey dreamland for goalies, with five of the six games played having three or fewer goals scored. If my math skills haven’t failed me, the combined save percentage for the 12 netminders was 0.945. Offensive kudos to Evgeni Malkin and Brayden Schenn, each scoring dramatic game-winners after 9-game scoring droughts.   [...]

News of the morning has to start with Tage Thompson. His 5-points (4G,1A) in the first period against Columbus was crazy enough, yes?  Almost an afterthought that he added a fifth.  Thompson has Rocket-ed to third in the NHL goals race.  My DFS+ starts with my Thursday feature, “What’s Wrong With… (2022 playoff teams only)?”  [...]

Last night I went to bed before the west coast game but had a DFS play (mostly) matching my deepest fantasy league - four Canadiens (Suzuki drafted, and FA’s Sean Monahan, Mike Matheson, and Kaiden Guhle) and two Canucks (Elias Pettersson and Andrei Kuzmenko, both drafted). Hmm, four goals, six assists, but only plus-2 combined, [...]
