Frozen Tools Forensics

This week we are going to run through a pretty classic exercise and look at a bunch of cold players and determine our level of general concern. Unfortunately, we will not exactly be answering the drop or not question as that really is going to depend on the categories of the league and not to [...]

This week we are turning our attention to our well-rounded contributors. Every so often we pause the more points-oriented conversations to highlight those strong multi-cat contributors across the league. For today’s article I took the Multi-Category report and exported it for the season to date (before games started on November 14). The tables below contain [...]

This week we are returning to a Frozen Tool Forensics classic - deployment. Every so often it is helpful to get an understanding of who is getting better opportunities on the ice, whether that is increased overall time on ice or increased time on the power-play. Obviously, we are most interested in players who are [...]

Before digging into our new topic for the week I wanted to update a couple of takes from last week where we were taking a look at some cold players. Some good news and some bad news on Edmonton’s top power play. Leon Draisaitl has four points in his last three games and nine in [...]

This week we are flipping the script from our last column. We touched on the hottest starts then, but now we really need to turn attention to some ice-cold players. With so few games in the books as of the writing of this article (Thursday, October 10th) it is hard to dig into too many specific happenings. We will hit a couple as they are relevant to our topic, but we are actually going to dig into a little bit of past data in order [...]

Writing this on the eve of the regular season, I decided to turn to training camp. Like with the article a couple of weeks ago on PTOs, I am going to follow a few storylines instead of the usual Dobber Report driven look at players. First up is a return to the PTO article and [...]

Today on Frozen Tools Forensics we are going to turn to goalies. It is hard to read too much into any preseason results so instead we will be looking back to the 2023-24 data to see if there are any little bits of wisdom we can pick up. We should start with the known quantity [...]

The NHL season is approaching and the flow of news is starting to pick up. Training camps are starting and we have injury updates, signings, line combinations, and PTOs. Professional tryouts are not usually the way to make a name for yourself as a fantasy player, and for the most part fantasy leagues won’t be [...]
