As keeper league hockey pools increase in number each year, fantasy junkies become more active in the off-season as they prepare their team for the coming year. Rebuild? Retool? Tweak? Whatever your intentions, it helps to get all the information you can about your players.

Throughout the off-season, FPL will look at a pair of teams each week and give you the fantasy lowdown. Bucking the trend of past years, we will review alphabetically – in reverse. Just to be different.

Keeper league junkies do not have a lot of things to look forward to in the summer and are often forced to content themselves with beefing up their teams via trades in order to get their fantasy hockey fix. However, there are a couple of summer dates that are the exception. On July 1, unrestricted free agency opens. The other date, of course, is Jun 22-23. The NHL entry draft. Here are the guys that are prominent on my radar and you should be quick to stick them on yours.

Why Legace Makes a Great Sleeper

We all are in agreement that the best goalies to own next season are Roberto Luongo and Martin Brodeur. We can also agree that there is a second tier that would include Miikka Kiprusoff, Marty Turco, Ryan Miller and Henrik Lundqvist. From that point, there are a handful of goaltenders who will give you solid fantasy numbers – to the extent that they could perform just as well as anyone in that second tier. These goaltenders include Tomas Vokoun, Rick DiPietro, Ray Emery, J-S Giguere (wherever he goes), Evgeni Nabokov, Marc-Andre Fleury and Cam Ward.

There is another one you should add to the list. In fact, you can stick him in the group of second-tier netminders. He’ll be that good.

Toronto and Tampa Bay
