Clarke MacArthur Signs With The Ottawa Senators

Fantasy Impact: The Ottawa Senators have signed winger Clarke MacArthur to a two-year deal worth $6.5M.
The Senators get: A depth forward that has some skill and can score goals in crucial moments. If he can stay healthy he should be a 20-25 goal scorer with decent players around him.
Â
Fantasy Players Impacted: It's a little puzzling that the Leafs wouldn't even entertain the idea of re-signing MacArthur as he didn't even get a raise with the Sens. He seemed to not fit in with Randy Carlyle's system, and as the buyout of Mikhail Grabovski yesterday showed, that probably sealed his fate in Toronto.
Â
MacArthur is a solid player and was one of the only Leafs that provided secondary scoring in their series with the Boston Bruins. He had two crucial goals that helped the Leafs force a seventh game.
Â
He now joins a Senators team that could see him find a spot with their second line, thanks to the departures of Daniel Alfredsson and Peter Regin earlier today. Ottawa has an emerging group of young forwards that include Jean-Pierre Pageau, Mika Zibanejad, and Jakob Silfverberg, so MacArthur could be a nice veteran presence to add in the mix.
He definitely needs to be paired with a strong centre to have success.
Â
MacArthur spent much of his time in Toronto with Mikhail Grabovski, Nikolai Kulemin, and Nazem Kadri this season. His departure probably hurts Kulemin the most as Grabovski is gone and Kadri figures to be moved up to the second line in 2013-14.
