Fantasy Impact: Martin Havlat has signed a one-year, $1.5 million deal with the New Jersey Devils.

The Devils get: a very skilled winger who has been ravaged by injuries throughout his entire NHL career, from concussions to knees, Havlat has had it all. It has take its toll on his body and his skills have definitely eroded. However, Havlat has shown spurts of the Havlat of old. Perhaps playing with fellow countrymen Jaromir Jagr, Patrik Elias and Marek Zidlicky will help.

Fantasy Players Impacted: This is a pretty good fit for Havlat, as he joins a team that really needs him. But how many games will he give them? Even 50 is optimistic. But during those 50 games, he will eat away at the power-play time of players like Damien Brunner and Michael Ryder. This signing also reduces the amount of games you can expect Reid Boucher to play in the NHL. I don’t think Havlat helps any of the team’s centermen because he’s not a huge upgrade to a Brunner or a Ryder or a Ryane Clowe or any of the other wingers who would have played in that spot.
