Fantasy Impact: Mike Cammalleri signs five-year $25 million deal with the New Jersey Devils.
The Devils get: A speedy veteran winger with a scoring touch they sorely needed.
Fantasy Players Impacted: Cammalleri goes from a shallow Calgary squad that ranked 23rd in the NHL in goals to a deeper New Jersey squad that also struggled to score ranking 27th in the NHL in goals. Cammalleri will have better talent to play with however, as he moves to a team with Travis Zajac, Adam Henrique and Patrik Elias up the middle after skating predominantly with Matt Stajan and Lee Stempniak this season.
Â
Cammalleri could very well replace Dainius Zubrus on the top line with Zajac and Jaromir Jagr. Jagr was likely to regress after the season he had but this will help him maintain his production.
Â
Hopefully Cammalleri brings the scoring punch that the Devils hoped to get from Michael Ryder. Ryder is no longer a de facto power play option. Cammalleri will also block Reid Boucher for the short term.
Â
This opens a spot in Calgary, which was swiftly filled by the signing of Mason Raymond. But Raymond won't play on the top power play unit so perhaps a spot will open up for a young player like Sam Bennett, Sven Baertschi or John Gaudreau.
