Calgary Flames Sign Troy Brouwer
Dobber

Fantasy Impact: Calgary Flames have signed winger Troy Brouwer to a four-year deal worth $18 million.
The Flames get: a big, streaky forward who teases at times like he's a 60-point player, but year after year and team after team he's a 39- to 43-point guy. This will be no different. Brouwer is 30 years old and stands at 6-3, 213 pounds. Last season he was fantastic in the playoffs, but prior to that he hadn't really stepped up in the postseason. He brings size that the team lacks in their top six, so he should get a look there. That may result in a fast start, thus making him draftable in some leagues. But don't expect consistent production from start to finish.
Fantasy Players Impacted: I doubted that Matt Tkachuk would make the team this year and now that doubt has grown stronger. Brouwer's arrival also hurts the chances of Hunter Shinkaruk making the team (he was a long shot anyway). Alex Chiasson and Michael Frolik will battle for top six ice time now that Brouwer has taken a spot.
Brouwer played much of last season with Robby Fabbri and Paul Stastny (his line combinations are here). Now he's probably looking at Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan. Quite an upgrade if it sticks. But only bump his value up slightly, because as I said – he's streaky, but in the end he'll get 43 points.
