Top 300 Keeper League Players – January 2018

Dobber

2018-01-09

This is way late, but here are the Top 300 skaters to own in a points-only keeper league – January edition.

As always, consider players within +/-5.0 rating points as having equal value and at that point become just a matter of need and/or personal preference. Check back tomorrow (Wednesday) for the Top 100 Defensemen…(and yes, that pushes the Prospect list back as well – the Midseason Guide has taken up my time!)

Click on any name to be taken to their spectacular Frozen Pool player profile.

Kucherov is awesome, really awesome… but equal to Mcdavid in keepers league? wow

Enjoy reading your articles. One criticism I have is that Karlsson should be at least 10-15 spots higher, maybe more. 70-80 point dmen don’t grow on trees.

Thanks, it’s hard to balance points-only leagues that require X defensemen and leagues that have no such requirement. I’m in one of each. In the one where we need defensemen, Karlsson is Top 5. In the one where we don’t, he’s not in the Top 20

Great list, just wondering, what parameters differ from keeper league rankings to prospect rankings? (like Theodore vs Girard)

    I have a question.

I know a little bit about keeper leagues.

But maybe I misunderstand the concept of these rankings.

Were my primary league (21 years now) to start fresh/ redraft all our players, and keeping in mind this draft would be for a keeper league, there is absolutely no way you’d see Kopitar or Stone drafted ahead of someone like Barzal. Or Tkacuk

Even Malkin, great, great player that he has been, he’s getting up there in age. Time tells on everybody, and he’s in his 30’s.
For building a team in a KEEPER league, I am taking Barzal ahead of him.

Hey Richard, nice to hear from you again.
Two quick thoughts before I go to bed here. 1) You didn’t ask a question! 2) Next time a player gets 8 points in 2 games…please don’t come on a couple days later and tell me how terribly I’ve ranked him. Thanks!

Dobbs, I’m so glad you’re feeling better. Good news all around.

No, I mentioned Barzal just because I had picked him up in a trade in early Nov (JVR and Leddy for Barzal and a 2nd Round pick next year).

He was already a point a game back then, this current status of his is nothing that recent. And this last point flurry had nothing at all to do with me coming late to you with him and asking some sort of newb question about your rankings.

In Nov I think Barzal was on your Prospect List. top 5,

I bought that, big time, is part reason why I did the deal – I consult around.

        Kudos to you.

You moved him to the Big List a week or so ago, so I’m now looking for insight, is all.

Looking at your own Guides – I buy ’em every year – you’ll see that somewhere you describe Barzal as a “superstar in the making”, or somesuch term.

That, and because I now own him, are why I picked him, particularly, to ask my question, but it could have been Tkachuk (got him also – another deal. It’s a rebuild year for me.) or any number of other up and comers.

My question, I thought, was implied, but sorry for not being more clear.
It is: at what point in creating your rankings does a great player’s age start to pull against him, and to what extent is it considered?

That’s why I offered you the age of my own primary pool – 21 years. We are a pool with a long history and perhaps an even longer horizon, planning forward is very important.

Listen, I drafted Malkin in that Pool while the guy was an 18 year old and still in Russia,

I only finally traded him (and Tavares) a year or so ago in a deal for McDavid, a deal only made possible after McD had that injury.

So, you see, I really like Malkin..

But really, even me, I would sooner invest my keeper slots right now in someone with more future than Gino.

Anyway, sorry if I annoyed you, no disrespect was intended towards your efforts.

It was just a question of me trying to obtain perspective into your perspective.

Welcome back – not that I personally felt that you had really ever left.

    Hello,

I was just curious if you guys plan on doing any rankings for leagues that count hits/blocks? It seems like those are much more common nowadays, and also are the only types of leagues I play in.

    I appreciate the articles!

Does Nolan Patrick really less keeper value than Andrew Ladd?
