The latest injury news – Bogosian, Eberle, Panarin, Iginla, Green and more…
Preseason keeps on rolling, but the week was a little light on injuries. Let’s find out not only who the unlucky few were, but who were lucky enough to join the ranks of the healthy.
ANAHEIM Clayton Stoner – The Ducks are a fantastic team, but they’ll miss this defenseman. Even though his upper body injury isn’t affecting him anymore, he’s under investigation for hunting a grizzly bear illegally.
BOSTON Zdeno Chara – The biggest man in hockey is still day-to-day with an upper body injury. However, he has begun skating, so he shouldn’t be too far off.
BUFFALO Rasmus Ristolainen – After missing much of camp, Ristolainen will likely get in about 2 preseason games now that he’s healthy again.
BUFFALO Josh Gorges – Gorges is dealing with a lower body injury and should be considered day-to-day.
BUFFALO Zach Bogosian – Bogo is week-to-week. Why? No one knows. I don’t know if Winnipeg thinks it’s playoff time, but they’re not disclosing the injury.
CALGARY Paul Byron – The Flames got their center back in practice on Wednesday. He’s been fully cleared.
CHICAGO Patrick Kane – Oy vey, what a saga. Kane’s legal case took so many turns, it’ll make your head spin. At the end of it though, there was a definite feeling that the accuser’s case was weakened significantly. Right now, it looks like the Hawks’ belief in him will pay off. However, this status can literally change in a millisecond. Keep up with his story on twitter!
CHICAGO Artemi Panarin – Chicago’s offseason addition has missed time with an upper body injury, but is expected back in the lineup today.
COLUMBUS Brandon Saad – After breaking his front teeth in a game, Saad took time to rest up and is good to go. He played in Tuesday night’s action and will be a go for the season opener. Dude took FOUR root canals! Hockey players, man.
COLORADO Jarome Iginla – Iggy’s nursing a hip injury, and head coach Patrick Roy has reportedly considered him day-to-day.
DALLAS Jamie Benn – Benn played in Tuesday’s preseason action vs the Blues. Consider him healthy going forward.
DETROIT Pavel Datsyuk – The Magic Man will remain out for at least another week, but is on track with his recovery.
DETROIT Mike Green – This won’t be the last time you see the President of the Band-Aid Boy club in this column. His groin is acting up again. Although it’s back to 100% (according to the man himself), it just shows you how weak that muscle really is, and how much of a fantasy liability Green can be if he’s injured often.
EDMONTON Jordan Eberle – Eberle hurt his shoulder in the EDM/ARI game. Keep your ear to the ground on this one, as the young forward’s arm was in a sling post-game and rumor is that it's separated. He could miss up to six weeks.
MINNESOTA Jason Zucker – Even though they’re banged up, Zucker and Jordan Schroeder are both practicing.
MINNESOTA Justin Fontaine – The Wild forward is day-to-day with a sore side. He will miss the season opener.
MONTREAL Noah Juulsen – Montreal’s first round pick has been skating at practice in a non-contact jersey. Consider him week-to-week.
MONTREAL Max Pacioretty – the 37-goal scorer is on the mend and mending well! He might even be ready for the season opener! Don’t let him slip too far down the draft board.
NASHVILLE James Neal – Neal’s dealing with a lower-body injury suffered during last week, as this descriptive report tells us.
NASHVILLE Cody Hodgson – Hodgson is dealing with an upper-body injury, but is only day-to-day.
NEW JERSEY Patrik Elias – Elias’s knee hasn’t gotten any better, and now is threatening his status for opening night.
NEW JERSEY Reid Boucher – The Devils’ offensive prospect returned to practice last Wednesday. He’ll be among the healthy to start the season, unless something happens over the next week. Whether he sticks with the big club is another matter entirely.
NEW YORK ISLANDERS Jaroslav Halak – The Isles’ goalie is day-to-day with a UBI, but should be fine for opening night.
NEW YORK ISLANDERS Thomas Hickey – The Isles will miss this defenseman as well, as Hickey will miss four weeks with a upper body injury..
PHILADELPHIA Sean Couturier – The Flyers’ top defensive center is day-to-day with an upper body injury.
PHILADELPHIA Michael Raffl – This Flyers’ winger also suffer a UBI and is day-to-day.
ST. LOUIS Carl Gunnarsson – This Blues’ defenseman suffered a pulled groin and should be considered day-to-day.
TAMPA BAY Tyler Johnson – Johnson’s wrist is fully healed, and he doesn’t feel limited by the injury at all.
VANCOUVER Chris Higgins – Higgins is still two weeks away from a re-evaluation of his broken foot.
