NHL Deals: Carter in Carolina!

Dobber Sports

2007-02-24

The Carolina Hurricanes have acquired Anson Carter from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a fifth round draft pick in 2008. carter Hurricanes: Land a second or third-line winger capable of chipping in 30 goals, but 20-25 is more reasonable an expectation.

Blue Jackets: I'm last person to pump up the virtues of Carter. Those long-time DobberHockey readers may remember my rant on him last summer. At any rate, to pass him off for a mid-round pick – and not even one for this year – strikes me as a little weak. With the trade market being quite expensive, the Blue Jackets just dragged it down…ruining it for everyone else. My value? At today's asking price? A third-round pick. For this year.

Fantasy players impacted: In Carolina, Carter will help them with offense while the team tries to get through the losses of Stillman and Cole. When those two players get back in the lineup, Carter will be a third-liner at best. His absence from Columbus may add a minute or two to the ice time of Gilbert Brule and Nik Zherdev.
