Hartnell and Timonen to Flyers for a First Rounder

 Hartnell

The Preds, as soon as they realized that they would be unable to sign pending UFA's Scott Hartnell and Kimmo Timonen, flipped the pair to the Flyers for their first round draft pick back (given up in the Forsberg trade in the spring). The Flyers than signed both Hartnell and Timonen.

The Flyers get: a young, hard-working leader in Hartnell who has an upside of 70 points if put on the right line. He could take over for Mike Knuble on the top line, or he could be on the second line with Scottie Upshall and Jeff Carter, giving Carter two hardworking, hustling wingers with skill to play with – right up his alley. Hartnell reportedly signed for six years at $25.2 million. The Flyers also get their new top defenseman and a leader. Kimmo Timonen was a former captain with the Preds and will be great for the young Philly dressing room. He will still be able to post 50 points in his new city. Timonen signed for six years and $37.8 million (What? Whoa!)

The Preds get: something. In another two weeks they would have got nothing. Is this the start of the Nashville gutting that we've heard so much about? Hmmm…

Fantasy Players Impacted: Hartnell is better off on a new team where he will receive first or second line ice time. His value moves up. Joni Pitkanen now has a Finnish counterpart – a well respected one at that – to play with and to keep him grounded. Pitkanen, if healthy, will flourish with Timonen on the team.

Keeping Karlsson Short Shifts – Thanks for Vejmelkmories

Elizabeth and Lewis reunite to bring you all the latest fantasy news and strategy, such as how our siblings would fare if called on to fill our roles like Owen Sillinger did for bro Cole. Then it’s onto news including coverage of the postponed CGY/LAK game and defensive injuries piling up in MIN and putting some strain on Gustavsson’s performance. Injuries and outjuries include a pair of goalies returning to their teams in Ingram and Shesterkin, as well as how Monahan’s wrist injury opens the door for big minutes for Fantilli. Finally, the pair touch on Voronkov and PLD’s hot streaks, and discuss John Carlson’s rollercoaster in light of Chychrun’s production.

Keeping Karlsson: Tuch Hunch

On this edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast mega-show, Elan and Brian tour every team, ranking a slate of the least bad goalies, noticing the wind in some Red Wings’ and Stars’ sails, dangling snoozer status above a pair of commonly rostered power-play quarterbacks, and rushing or strolling, accordingly, to some skaters on the up and up.
