Prepare for Departure

20 April 2007: Buffalo Sabres center Daniel Briere warms up prior to game five of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals versus the New York Islanders at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, NY. Buffalo defeated New York 4-3 and wins the series 4 games to 1.

After having a great 2005-06 season, the Flyers took a nosedive last season. The nosedive affected everyone from management to coaches to players. This team flat out crashed, allowing the most goals (297) and winning the fewest games (22). There were lots of other lows, too. Only one player played in all 82 contests (Derian Hatcher). Goaltending was inconsistent. Losing became an infection that kept spreading and getting worse. While Simon Gagne managed to remain a serious scoring threat, he alone could not carry his team. The injury to Mike Knuble and other key players did not help. This season the Flyers look to lift themselves up off the ground and turn everything around.

Philadelphia and Ottawa

As NHL keeper pools increase in number each year, fantasy junkies become more active in the off-season as they prepare their team for the coming year. Rebuild? Retool? Tweak? Whatever your intentions, it helps to get all the information you can about your players.

Throughout the off-season, FPL will look at a pair of teams each week and give you the fantasy lowdown. Bucking the trend of past years, we will review alphabetically – in reverse. Just to be different.

The Canucks signed Ryan Shannon, who is a great dark horse - he's not there to be a checker, I'll tell you that much. Watch him and his role in camp. The 'Hawks signed Jim Vandermeer and Danny Richmond. The Preds signed their last RFA - Vern Fiddler. Two years, $1.7 million. They have about $1.5 (give [...]

The Kings have signed their fourth overall pick from this summer Thomas Hickey to a three-year entry level deal. He will not be on the pro roster this year. The Caps have re-signed Steve Eminger and Brian Sutherby to contracts.  New York has traded Matt Cullen back to Carolina for Andrew Hutchinson, prospect Joe Barnes, and a [...]

DOBBER'S POOL GUIDE - READY IN...  A great article on some Russian prospects, for your perusal: LINK   The Denver Post is reporting that Peter Forsberg underwent ankle surgery a few days ago. It was a casual, opinion column so I'm not sure I would put any stock in it, but if true he may miss [...]

Kamil Piros has signed to play in Germany next season.  Boston Globe's Fluto Shinzawa is blogging that David Krejci has been the best player in Boston camp and it is looking like he has a real shot at playing in the NHL all season. Thanks to TG for the link. Francois Bouchard will be rocketing up my [...]
