There's no song about it yet, but if the class of 2008 turns out half as good as advertised... it'll still be 200% better than most drafts! Here's your first in-depth look at the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, starting with the top 10 players from the eastern portion of the Canadian Hockey League.

The Pens have signed goaltender John Curry, who put up impressive college numbers. Regardless, his numbers weren't nearly as nice as Dave Brown's, who was another college netminder that they signed a couple of weeks ago. I really like Brown's potential, but it will be interesting to see the two of them duke it out [...]

The Pens have signed Jeff Taffe. Taffe has had a miserably disappointing career so far, but last season showed some promise by forcing his way onto the Coyotes and actually sticking. However, the Pens are full at center so I don't see him cracking the squad. He is ranked #212 on my prospects list.  Earth-shattering news. [...]

The Stars have signed Joel Lundqvist to a two-year one-way deal. He's on the team now. It's his spot to lose. Lundqvist is ranked 74 on my prospect list.  The Stars have signed Mike Ribeiro to a one-year contract.  The Oil have six offensive rearguards in the mix now with Souray, Tarnstrom, Smid, Grebishkov, Gilbert and of [...]

Henrik Lundqvist signed a one-year deal with the Rangers. Semen Varlamov has apparently changed his name to Simeon Varlamov. At DobberHockey, we'll refuse to change his name...just for a little while. It's too fun, not to mention childish, to say while snickering. In other Semen news, he signed an entry-level deal with the Caps. The Kings have [...]

The New York Daily News is reporting that the Islanders will be signing Chris Simon within a matter of days. Stay tuned...  Brendan Shanahan has agreed to a one-year deal with the Rangers, which will be made official soon. The Devils just buried themselves by overpaying Vitaly Vishnevski with a three-year deal with nearly two million per [...]

The Coyotes have signed Mike York to a one-year deal worth $1 million. A nice signing that is virtually risk free. They take a chance that he can turn things around and if it doesn't work they aren't tied down long term. You won't see 60 from him, but a nice bounce back season of [...]

For those of you that have not yet read Friday's announcement, it is in the forum in the "announcements" thread. Also...some hilarious trash talk between Burnsy and Notch. At it again, those two...  New York is disagreeing with TSN in that the Rangers actually have $9 million in cap space. TSN's Bob McKenzie said it was [...]
