Jon Sim sprained his knee on Saturday and Jeff Tambellini has been recalled. It will be Tamby's chance to redeem himself.

AM 640, TSN and Kukla's Korner are all reporting that Leaf forward Jason Blake has leukemia. It is very treatable and he is currently taking pills for it, so that is very good news.

Tomas Vokoun is off to a slow start in Florida. He's surrendered a goal on the first shot in both of his first two starts, has given up nine goals in two games and is 0-2 with a 4.54 goals against average.

When Meyer clears waivers (noon today), the Isles can then sign Bryan Berard. He will likely not be in the lineup today though, but would play on Wednesday.

Bruce Garrioch is reporting that the Leafs could be interested in signing Dave Scatchard.

Alexander Semin aggravated his ankle late in Saturday's game and will likely miss the game tonight. He did not practice yesterday.

Mike Ribeiro continues to skate well back in Dallas. Dave Tippett said he probably won't be ready for Wednesday night's game against the Kings, but that Ribeiro is getting closer.

Phoenix assigned Ryan Caldwell to San Antonio.

Last season I could have used this in expert league when I drafted him then, but finally Jaroslav Spacek is seeing some power play time for Buffalo. He has three points in two games. If he can hang onto this job, he would get the 50 points that I thought he would get last year. If the Sabres go back to five forwards on the PP, then Spacek is a 25-point player. For now, he makes a great roto pickup.

Evgeni Nabokov got the hook last night in San Jose's 6-2 loss to the Avs.

Paul Stastny is trying to become the new franchise player in Colorado. Five points – are you kidding me? I don't have the numbers here in front of me but I'll bet that if you were to look at his last 45 NHL games he would have somewhere in the neighborhood of 65 points.  He played with Smyth and Hejduk last night.

Jose Theodore stopped 21 of 24 shots in an AHL tuneup yesterday and should be back on the roster sometime this week.

Jacques Lemaire feels that Eric Belanger will get 80 points this year. It's not like a coach to say such things…so this intrigues me. It sounds like he will at least get the opportunity to do this, which is good news for Belanger owners.

Johan Franzen is out three to four weeks with an injured knee. He occasionally sees time on the top line, so this will ensure that Tomas Holmstrom will stay there. I would be looking at Holmstrom to step up his production for a while – he's quite streaky. Jiri Hudler is another small beneficiary of this news.

Sandis Ozolinsh is in a similar situation as Berard. He is doing well in practice for the team and is expected to sign a contract soon. His arrival would hurt Matt Carle's production, as well as probably Christian Ehrhoff's. He is another guy you could sneak off the waiver wire, although it is doubtful that he would be a long-term solution.

The word on Sean Avery – a Grade II shoulder separation and he will be out for about four weeks.

Richard Zednik, who has been out with a shoulder injury, will likely return to the lineup on Wednesday and play on a line with Jokinen and Peltonen. In anticipation of this, the team assigned Kamil Kreps to Rochester.
