The Oilers have signed Tom Gilbert to a SIX-YEAR deal worth a reported $24 million. That pretty much lays it out for you how important Edmonton will be treating Gilbert in the future.
Los Angeles signed a very good prospect in goaltender Jeff Zatkoff yesterday. He signed a three-year entry level deal, foregoing his final year in college. He went 27-6-1, 1.67 and .934. He currently ranks 100th on my fantasy goalies list, but shoots up with the news. The Kings are deep in net, which is why I can't see Cloutier and LaBarbera sticking around. I really like Erik Ersberg, and I think Bernier is the next big thing. Zatkoff, however, is nothing to sneeze at. They could do worse than go with those three young goalies.
Marc Savard played last night, but just 14:56. David Krejci, now out of the spotlight, went minus-2.
The Tennessean is speculating that David Legwand could be back in the lineup Saturday. He is wearing special padding on his skate.
Darcy Regier on Max Afinogenov: "he may well be one of these players who's ready for a change". He will enter the final year of his contract, but it looks like the Sabres will shop him.
Florida GM Jacques Martin will relinquish his coaching duties. His defensive system is not popular with the team. With a new coach, look for Jokinen to bounce back up over 85 points next year, while disappointments like Horton and Weiss should pop.
Mark Parrish will not be in the lineup (concussion) tomorrow. Martin Skoula is questionable. If Skoula can't go, Erik Reitz will get in.
Antti Miettinen was a healthy scratch last night.
I'm going to be critical of Barry Trotz again. The team couldn't score last night. JP Dumont was a minus-3. The best offensive player on this team and their best playoff player a year ago – Alexander Radulov – was tied for ninth on the team in power-play ice time. He was an even plus/minus. Should Trotz be stubborn, or should he wake up and start giving himself the best chance to win? NINTH in PP ice time?
Corey Perry may not get back in the lineup by the end of the first round. He is still hopeful, but the muscle in his quad was severed and needs time to heal.
With the Ducks getting hammered – and shut out – last night, look for one of Bobby Ryan or Ryan Carter to get scratched next game in favor of Doug Weight. My money is on Carter.

Anton Volchenkov hopes to play tonight for the Sens. He did not sustain a concussion.
In Philly practice, RJ Umberger was knocked to the fourth line with Riley Cote and Jim Dowd. Ouch!
Steve Downie is questionable with the flu.
