Brendan Shanahan has joined the Devils, as per TSN. No contract has been signed, but it seems immenent. Thankfully, this is one of the teams I mentioned in the Guide for Shanny, so I don't have egg on my face ;)
Ken Campbell reports in his blog that not only would Jaromir Jagr consider returning in two years to play for the Penguins – but he would do it for the salary minimum. Wow! Can't see the Pens turning a blind eye to that statement.
Mikhail Grabovski was suspended for three games for abuse of official. He was going after Sergei Kostitsyn, who ironically is one of I believe four players to hail from Belarus. The other three players – Grabovski, and of course the other Kostitsyn, plus Ruslan Salei. The bad blood between Sergei and Grabovski seems to date back to their Montreal days and has really come to a head over the last few meetings. Coach Ron Wilson not only bears no anger towards Grabovski for doing this, but he said in an interview on 640 Toronto that he repects Grabovski for it. Not the "linesman" stuff, but how he handled SK.
Sheldon Souray left last night's game with an upper body injury. Both Gilbert and Grebeshkov owners benefit from the potential here – Souray is a Band-Aid Boy, so this injury was to be expected.
Rick DiPietro missed his third straight game with swelling in the knee. Have you had enough of this guy yet, DiPietro owners?
Ruslan Fedotenko will miss 4-6 weeks with a broken hand. Jordan Staal will continue to play wing as a result – because the Pens desperately need skilled wingers now more than ever.
Steven Stamkos was a healthy scratch last night.
Well, injuries to Nash, Huselius, Chimera and Brassard were enough to finally get Voracek some ice time. He played 16:32 and picked up an assist. A few more players have to go down with injury before Ken Hitchcock will give Nikita Filatov the ice time. 8:53 for Filatov, with more than half that on the PP.
For fellow youngster Maxim Mayorov, the news wasn't so bright – just 4:40 of ice time.
Tomas Fleischmann was back in the Caps lineup.
Caps PP last night: Ovechkin, Green pretty much throughout (a good 90%), then Semin, Backstrom and Laich seeing 75% of it, Kozlov and Fleischman seeing 40% of it, and Fedorov seeing the rest (about 30%)
Tim Connolly returned last night. Here are the Sabres lines: Gaustad with Pominville and Ellis (?); Roy with Stafford and Vanek; Mair with Hecht and Kotalik; Connolly with Paille and MacArthur.
Brian Elliott has been recalled by the Sens and he will get the start today. A strong performance will spell the end of Martin Gerber, as GM Murray is hinting that some big players could be waived.
Steve Sullivan's return does not spell the end for the stint of Ryan Jones, nor Antti Pihlstrom. Instead, the Preds elected to place Rich Peverley on waivers. The Tennessean is saying that Sullivan practiced with Fiddler and Tootoo.
