Steve Reinprecht will be out 7-10 days with an injured shoulder/collarbone (area). Other sources have reported a more severe timeline, but this is an UPDATE straight from Ice Chips.

The Dispatch has confirmed that Steve Mason has mononucleosis. Mason was diagnosed Thursday and he played yesterday with it. The team plans to continue playing him, while monitoring him. But beware Mason owners.

Goligoski got back into the PIT lineup last night and played over 16 minutes while manning some of the top PP and all of the second PP. I like that situation and I hope Michel Therrien sticks with it, but I doubt it. The Pens were undone by the weak play of Garon (five goals, 26 shots) and callup Bill Thomas (minus-2). I'd like to see the Pens give Luca Caputi a look on a scoring line. Sure, it would be rushing him but I'm just talking about a two or three game look. Thomas isn't the answer, Pesonen isn't the answer, and they traded Stone and Filewich.

The Red Wings scratched Tomas Holmstrom with a groin injury. Ville Leino stepped in and scored his first NHL goal in his first NHL game. He played 12:20 with a couple of decent linemates: Datsyuk and Hossa. The ice time tells me he'll be scratched the instant he goes a game without a point, so be wary. But the Wings are bringing him along nice and slow and I think he will be a solid addition for next season.

In his first start of the season, Tuukka Rask stopped all 35 shots for the shutout. Tim Thomas was just given a break – but seeing the great play of Rask will certainly ensure he gets another start soon.

Seeing Krejci play just 15 minutes last night makes me wonder if he truly did miss practice on a "maintenance day". Keep an eye on this. Perhaps the ice time is just down with Bergeron back.

Jose Theodore has started seven straight games, going 4-2-1 with a .919 save percentage during that stretch.

Pavol Demitra told "Russo's Rants" that he will be back next game likely.
