Havelid Traded To New Jersey for Salmela

The Atlanta Thrashers traded defenceman Niclas Havelid and forward Myles Stoesz to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for blueliner Anssi Salmela.

The Devils get: an experienced blueliner who will log a ton of minutes. Havelid goes from a 20-point defenseman to a 35-point defenseman. He will also see monster plus/minus numbers. His career high is plus-9 and he is currently at plus-4. He will easily top his career high in the time given.

The Thrashers get: a power-play quarterback with some upside. Their was a logjam on the blue line and the team also needed to get something back for Havelid, who is set to become a UFA. A change of scenery is always good for a player in Salmela's position, however do not count on big points this year. He might get a look – but picking him up in your roto league could pay zero dividends. But with Hainsey, Enstrom and Bogosian already filling the PP QB role, Salmela probably wishes he was dealt to a different team. With Jamie Rivers as the top QB for affiliate Chicago Wolves, Salmela's acquisition was likely made to bolster the farm.

Fantasy Players Impacted: Andy Greene can say goodbye to regular ice time. He showed promise before his November injury, but has floundered since returning. Havelid's spot in the Atlanta lineup will be filled by Nathan Oystrick, whereas Zach Bogosian will eat up more ice time. Salmela's value goes up a tick, but unless he forces the matter, he is in tough.

DobberHockey.com will have the fantasy impact of every trade within minutes of it being announced on March 4 . It is a “must stop” for all fantasy owners who have their own trade deadlines to worry about.
