The New York Islanders have sent Bill Guerin to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a draft pick that could be between the fifth round or the third round, depending on how far the Pens go.
The Penguins get: a veteran presence for their third line with the ability to sub in on the top six and play the power play. He has the grit that Miro Satan has been lacking.
The Islanders get: a draft pick.
Fantasy players impacted: Although Guerin is on a deeper team, he is on a team that will score more goals. His linemates improve. Because of his reduced role, I would expect that his production will remain as is.
Satan has cleared waivers. Potentially, he could go to the AHL now. Pascal Dupuis becomes even further buried.
Guerin off the island will mean more ice time for the likes of Sean Bergenheim, Jeff Tambellini and Kyle Okposo. Look for them to pick up the pace. Jesse Joensuu could also be called back up and he bears watching.
