Willie Mitchell is an impressive plus-20 in the last 22 games for Vancouver. He has 21 points as well, so Mitchell has been a great value in deep rotissere and head-to-head leagues this season.
Nikolai Kulemin's wife was due to give birth, so he missed last night's contest.
Ryane Clowe will miss about a week after undergoing minor surgery on a lower body injury. Clowe owners, consider yourself very lucky – he has been injured every season dating back to junior, so if this is all the injury he gets this year – you are sitting pretty. Clowe's injury allowed Setoguchi back on a scoring line and he promptly drew an assist.
Hemsky owners – did your eyes pop out of your head when you read the summary for the 8-1 victory and saw that he was pointless?
Ales Kotalik – removed from Hemsky's line – picked up four points. If these unexplainable phenomenan continue, I will have to shut down DobberHockey!!
Ilya Kovalchuk will play tonight, so Brett Sterling and Spencer Machacek have been returned to Chicago (Joey Crabb was recalled)
Paul Stastny missed last night's contest with a bruised foot and the team recalled TJ Galiardi to play in his first NHL game. Whoops. He was a minus-3. Ranked 188 on my fantasy prospects list, Galiardi is still a couple of years away. Probably three before he is full time.
Joe Sakic is back skating non-contact. He hopes to get in a couple of games before the season is over.
Ville Leino has not yet been recalled by Detroit, though Holmstrom will not go tonight. Look for an announcement later today – I think the team will recall him if Filpulla (who is close to a return) can't make it. Holmstrom will probably miss at least three games.
The Leafs signed a big winger in their system out of college. Alex Berry was their fifth rounder in 2005. Potentially, he could be a 35-point, 120 PIM third liner, or he could hone his game to be more of a fighter if it will help him stick in the NHL. Either way, he'll be in the minors the rest of this year and probably next.
The Dispatch is reporting that Derick Brassard could be cleared to play if Columbus can get to the second round of the playoffs. "no way he plays before May"
Janne Pesonen really wants to play for the Pens. He has 12 points in his last five AHL games, clearly getting comfortable with the North American game.
Mike Green left last night's contest with an undisclosed injury. He missed practice this morning, but hopes to play tomorrow.
Marian Gaborik "does not feel close to 100 percent" according to Russo's Rants – but he plans to play on Sunday. That's right, Gaborik will be back Sunday. Probably. Maybe.
Sick baby all night – ramblings will be late this morning.
