Comrie to the Wild? August 20, 2009

Fantasy Guide can be found here. I had a look at the two guides on newsstands that I contributed to (Hockey News and Forecaster) and looked at two players that predicted 40 or more points for – Shirokov on Vancouver and Stoa in Colorado. They didn’t have them, that I could find. Just two examples of gems you won’t find anywhere else thanks to the fact that this Guide is updated.

Some small news to note – the Sabres have signed Jeff Cowan to a contract. I don’t see him as a regular in the lineup, but a great depth move. Also, the Ducks have signed Brett Festerling to a two-year deal.

Very sad news in Washington – Jose Theodore’s two-month old son has passed away. Heartbreaking. With a little one myself, I can really feel that, yet I can’t even imagine what he’s feeling.

Mike Comrie is reportedly close to signing with the Wild. I think that would be a good fit for him, as he’ll be relied upon heavily for offense and yet won’t be the “go to” guy. Perfect. If he signs, I’ll put up further analysis.

The Vancouver Province is reporting that Cody Hodgson has been off the ice for much of the summer as he recovers from a bad back. The team expects him healed by camp, but that is less than a month away now so one has to wonder. If you’re looking for immediate help in the coming season in your keeper, you may want to see what’s out there. He would bring in a premium. In my one league, I am trying to parlay him and Kyle Quincey (and a pick) for Derek Roy.

Injuries and outjuries include a pair of goalies returning to their teams in Ingram and Shesterkin, as well as how Monahan’s wrist injury opens the door for big minutes for Fantilli. Finally, the pair touch on Voronkov and PLD’s hot streaks, and discuss John Carlson’s rollercoaster in light of Chychrun’s production.

On this edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast mega-show, Elan and Brian tour every team, ranking a slate of the least bad goalies, noticing the wind in some Red Wings’ and Stars’ sails, dangling snoozer status above a pair of commonly rostered power-play quarterbacks, and rushing or strolling, accordingly, to some skaters on the up and up.
