Fantasy Guide, updated through yesterday, can be purchased here.

Ryan Getzlaf took part in his first full practice and is on track to get into a preseason game or two. He has been recovering from sports hernia surgery.

Interesting… Bryan McCabe has been named Captain of the Panthers.

The Caputi/ Tangradi cuts were for the best, as far as development goes. I just can’t believe the Pens are being so careful with them. And kudos to them for doing it. I don’t see either of them remaining in the AHL for the entire season though. Maybe 20 games for Luca and 30-40 for Eric in the NHL this year. For now, it looks like Kunitz, Guerin, Fedotenko and – until Talbot gets back – Tyler Kennedy or possibly (long shot) Chris Conner.

And the winner of the battle to play with Crosby or Malkin is – nobody. The Pens just cut Luca Caputi, Eric Tangradi and Konstantin Pushkarev. Other cuts include Dustin Jeffrey, Wade Brookbank, Jonathan D’Aversa, Simon Despres and Brad Theissen. Still there – Chris Conner.

Jesse Joensuu was a surprise cut by the Isles this morning. The team also cut Sean Bentivoglio and several others.

Teddy Purcell continues to have a strong preseason, scoring again last night. He’s still stuck on the third line, but will be the first one into the top six when injury strikes.

Eric Staal had a baby boy yesterday. Congrats to Eric!

When fully analyzing the Turris/Tikhonov demotions for yesterday’s update in the fantasy guide, I realized that Kevin Porter was the biggest beneficiary. He has four points in three games and has all but solidified a roster spot in Phoenix. I don’t expect great things this year – or even a full season, given the call-up possibilities – but this is still great news for Porter owners. A week ago, he was looking like a dropsy – a casualty of the numbers game.

Nikita Filatov had two assists and scored the shootout winner last night. He played with Vermette and Voracek and the line was quite successful.

Colorado rearguard Tom Preissing underwent knee surgery and he will be out until late October, in case you had him as a sleeper.
