Just heard that Ales Hemsky may be done for the season with serious shoulder surgery. I’ll keep my eyes on this one here…

Phoenix has recalled Mikkel Boedker.

Washington has recalled Alexandre Giroux with Tyler Sloan out. Giroux skated with Ovechkin and Backstrom at practice. Obviously his value (even for a game or two) skyrockets if he plays with those two for any extended period of time. Thanks to James for posting this.

As per Ian Mendes (Sportsnet) – Mike Fisher skated on his own today and hasn’t ruled out playing on Saturday.

Looks like the Bruins are not as optimistic about Lucic’s injury as they were a day ago. He won’t play tonight against the Devils. Bob McKenzie is reporting that he will be out one month(at least) with a dreaded high-ankle sprain.

Ottawa has recalled Erik Karlsson to replace Brian Lee in the lineup, and it sounds like Volchenkov is out as well for tomorrow.

Definitely the lightest schedule I have had on my days covering the ramblings! I am used to breaking down the results from at least eight or nine games.

Henrik Sedin has 14 goals through 24 games (roughly a 50 goal pace). His career high is 22, and during his best offensive season (82 points in 2006-07), he had 10 goals. Go figure. He has eight in his last nine and is red hot. It will be interesting to see if his goal totals keep up, even with Daniel back in the lineup.

Like I said last week, buy low on Alex Burrows if you still can. His production suffered when Daniel went out, as he slid down to the second line, and was battling through hip and groin issues. He is skating much better now and obviously has great chemistry with Daniel and Henrik. Burrows should be good for 22-25 goals – looking for a repeat of 28 may be optimistic, but he is way under the radar right now.

Burrows finished the night with one goal, one assist, seven shots on goal, and a plus-3 rating.

Comical moment with Kyle Wellwood – he finally got his first goal of the season. Many thought he got it when Tanner Glass scored, and the fans even booed when they announced Glass as the goal scorer. Wellwood was then put out there when Quick was pulled, and preceded to hit the post with an empty net. However, he got another crack at it and snuck it past a sprawling Drew Doughty.

Huge news out of Montreal – Andrei Markov is shooting for a late December/early January return. He hit the ice yesterday and is way ahead of schedule. Obviously Markov owners should be excited, but this is huge for Carey Price. If he can keep his current level of play up, Markov will really stabilize things and he won't have to steal points every single night.

Ovechkin wasn't suspended for his hit on Patrick Kaleta on Wednesday night.

Think Kopitar misses Smyth much? He has one assist in four games without Smyth, and the Kings are 1-3 during that stretch. He obviously was going to slow down from his 140 point pace, but he has gone ice cold very quickly. No one on LA does the little things as well as Smyth, that is for sure.

Alex Semin is slated to return to practice with the Capitals today. Not sure when his full return to the lineup will be – I'll try and update this if any news comes in.

David Booth still struggling mightily. Forget rehabbing, he is still experiencing headaches watching TV and reading. It may be really early to speculate… but this could be a career threatening concussion.

Bobby Sanguenetti has been recalled after tearing up the AHL with 22 points in 21 games. Del Zotto owners shouldn't worry – his job is safe on the first unit. Sanguenetti will replace Redden if he can't go. This will be a good time to evaluate him (Sanguenetti) if you have him on your keeper roster.

Teddy Purcell was robbed blind of a goal last night (video below). He was playing with an edge and was much more involved in scrums and physical battles than usual. It seems like he knows he has to start playing less of a perimeter game to stick with the Kings.

Brian Elliot had a very strong game in net for the Senators (is it just me, or are those Ottawa alternate jerseys really, really ugly?), and is a great option for the short term with Leclaire out at least a month. He allowed only one goal on 32 shots.

On the other side of the ice, Steve Mason had one of his better starts of the season (not saying much, but it is a good sign). He had several highlight reel saves – the winner was a bit of a stinker but Mason should recover from this recent slump. He is way too talented both physically and mentally to slump all season.

Philadelphia waived Danny Syvret. Not much to see here – a bit overmatched at the NHL level.

Ales Kotalik may play tonight – sounds like it will be a game-time decision. He is a huge part of the Rangers power play, and has had a fantastic start to the season so far.

Martin Hamstri… I mean Havlat will probably miss the weekend games for the Wild as he has yet to return to the ice.

Rick Nash is awesome. I wish I got to see him play more – he is right up there with Ovechkin and Gaborik in terms of being a pure game breaking threat. He was pointless but was dominant in all of his 22 minutes of ice time.

Stralman looks great as well – his defensive play has been fine and he is fantastic working the point. He moves around a lot changing his shooting angles, and he also is very good at keeping potentially clearing attempts in the zone. After Nash, he saw the most ice time on the team.

Spezza scored! That short sentence is music to the ears of all Spezza owners I am sure.

Shoot the puck! The four players with the most shot totals: Ovechkin, Parise, Carter, and Nash. I know skill has a lot to do with getting in position to even shoot the puck, but there is such a positive correlation between shooting and scoring that it consistently dumbfounds me to watch playmakers pass up golden opportunities to make a pass.

Often times, a really high shooting percentage can be indicative of a player scoring more than they should. David Jones leads the league with a 28% shooting percentage (10 goals on 36 shots). Wow, I didn't know he had that many! Anyway, I think its obvious that Jones won't hit 40, but you get my point.

Roberto Luongo with highway robbery on Teddy Purcell (this is the best I could get so far – not HD unfortunately):
