Dobber is looking for a prospects columnist – details here.

Matt Corrente, who I am high on as a future 20-30 point, 150+ PIM defenseman, had two fights against the Lightning last night.

I’ll have some updates up tomorrow morning/afternoon.

Great article on David Perron and Twitter here.

Bergfors had a goal, which was his second in two games.

Andy Greene played a massive 30 minutes (in regulation), and finished with an assist. He has definitely taken advantage of the opportunity given to him with Martin and Oduya out.

The Penguins waived Chris Bourque – look for Washington to put a claim in to reacquire him, as they can now send him down to Hershey free and clear. He didn't show much in Pittsburgh – the clock is ticking for him with regards to any sort of NHL future.

Pittsburgh vs. Chicago tonight – should be a dandy!

Cam Ward was back in practice on Friday, taking some shots from his teammates. According to coach Paul Maurice, Ward is aiming to return next Wednesday on the road in New Jersey.

Cody Hodgson update – he has been cleared for physical contact after practicing with his Brampton teammates for the past two weeks. There still is some pain in the back area, but I think he'll find a way to be on the World Junior team in a few weeks

Flyers fired John Stevens – Roberto Luongo's shutout on Thursday was probably the icing on the cake. The Flyers acted quickly, hiring former Carolina coach Peter Laviolette, who had been working as a part-time TSN analyst (the go-to job for unemployed coaches, it seems). Laviolette is going to give this team a serious kick in the rear.

It seems that teams always produce at an elevated rate after a coaching change. It is a trend that I have wanted to research, but have never gotten around to doing it. Maybe one day…

One of my pre-season predictions – Detroit missing the playoffs. Still probably a silly prediction, but they don't look like a playoff club right now. No offensive depth, weak goaltending, and a defense that has yet to bring its "A" game. Lidstrom has lost a step, and without Kronwall no one is really qualified to run the power play.

Nikita Filatov had a revealing interview on Puck Daddy yesterday. I understand Filatov's point of view (to a degree), but to me he seems like he quit on his team. Hitchcock has a proven track record at winning and with young players. Filatov may have been getting the short end of the stick with regards to ice time, but it is up to him to prove Hitchcock he deserves it. It just sounds like Filatov took the easy way out here. He has been absolutely dominant since going to the KHL, but his talent never really was in question. I think the issue goes both ways a bit, though.

Sticking with the Jackets, offense is far from the problem. Their goaltending/defense (which often go hand in hand) have been abysmal so far this season.

Interesting numbers I came across – if you extrapolate the numbers of Burrows and the Sedins over 82 games (they have played 42 regular season games together as a line and 10 more in the playoffs), Burrows would have 41 goals and 65 points, Daniel would have 24 goals and 86 points, and Henrik would have 35 goals and 95 points.

Eric Brewer is out two-to-four weeks with a back injury. Band-aid executive right here.

Raycroft is starting today for the Canucks. The team doesn't want to risk Luongo in another morning game, after he tore his groin last season against the Penguins at the same start time (1:30 EST/10:30 PST).

Chris Kunitz still isn't skating, and has been out 10 games now. No word on when he will be returning.

Goligoski did some light skating yesterday, and apparently he didn't re-aggravate his groin injury (it is something new). I don't think he plays tonight, but expect him back at some point over the next 7-10 days.

Tomas Vokoun practiced on Friday and should be in net tonight against Atlanta – Alexander Salak has been returned to the AHL.

Chris Butler sprained his ankle on Thursday night and is out for little while.

Kimmo Timonen has been playing with a broken toe over the past four games – he has recorded only one point during that span.

Vinny Lecavalier started the game last night skating on the left side – he scored a goal in the second period (an ugly goal, but they are all top shelf snipes on the score sheet). It is simple to see why he is not producing – he just isn't getting to the dirty areas and seems content to play a soft, perimeter game. Vinny really emerged as a dominant player after the 2004 cup run, when he really added physicality to his game in a big way.

Great article on Andrej Sekera here.
