The FREE DobberHockey Olympics Pool deadline is today. By midnight you must change your team (if you want to change it) and/or your entry must be in by 12 (ET) tonight. Join here.

According to Rob Rossi, the Pens will probably not be making a deadline deal due to cap restraints. According to Cap Geek, they have enough space to take on about $1.5 million in full-season salary, which eliminates quite a few players – including Ponikarovsky ($2.5 million). A simple matter of sending some salary the other way would make it work, though the only expiring contract that fits is Fedotenko ($1.8 million). The cost for Poni is believed to be a second round pick. Fedotenko is known for his playoff acumen, so a deal for Poni (that I’ve speculated on in the past) is looking doubtful. Kunitz, at $3.275, really handcuffs them.

Marcel Goc picked up his hot play where he left off, returning from injury to tally two points last night. He has 18 points in his last 28 games for the Preds. At 26, he is coming into his own and is a dark horse to tally 45 next campaign. Look for at least 12 points down the stretch.

Mark Parrish was pointless and minus-1 in his season debut for the Lightning. He played just under 14 minutes. His becoming a fantasy asset was like throwing a Hail Mary pass – and sure enough, it’s clear he will not be.

As I mentioned yesterday, teams would be sending their youngsters back to the AHL to get some ice time. Notable names include Mikael Backlund (CGY), Zach Boychuk (CAR), PK Subban (MTL), Mikkel Boedker (PHO), Michal Neuvirth and John Carlson (WAS). Most of these players will be recalled when play resumes.

Cam Barker scored in his Wild debut yesterday. He played 19:38. It looks like the Wild went with four forwards on their top PP: Koivu, Miettinen, Havlat, Brunette with Zidlicky. Then the second PP had Barker and Burns, as well as Nolan, Belanger and Latendresse. I think they’re showcasing Zidlicky and Barker will be their boy when Zids gets dealt.

Somebody wants to play for Team Canada. Ryan Getzlaf had one game to show Team Canada that he was healthy enough to play, and he had Jeff Carter hanging over his head, drooling for that spot. So is a four-point game proof enough?

Edmonton was hammered with penalties – Getzlaf actually saw 10:29 of power play time yesterday.

Shawn Horcoff made his season debut last night, tallying three points and going plus-2. Those other 55 games in which he had 20 points and was minus-31, well that was the ‘fake’ Shawn Horcoff.

No, I don’t think he’s turning things around. I was just joking.
