Fantasy Analysis: The Oilers have claimed winger Ryan Jones off of waivers from Nashville.
Edmonton gets: a 25-year-old sophomore who has not fully established himself as a second or third liner, but could go either way. Not quite in his prime, the Oilers took him at the right time and given their track record with Gilbert Brule, they could actually do well with him.
Fantasy Players Impacted: This pickup may have been done so that the team can fill a void up front created by a deal later today. Jones would be a steady, reliable replacement for say the inconsistent Robert Nilsson (as an example). Jones will definitely see more ice time and responsibility in Edmonton than he was getting Nashville and could wind up being a very serviceable 55-point player.
Players this move helps, in order:
1. Ryan Jones
Players this move hurts, in order:
1. Robert Nilsson
2. Patrick O’Sullivan
3. Gilbert Brule
4. Andrew Cogliano
5. Any young Oiler forward, really
