The Devils are going to have to undergo a massive rebuild in a few years. Brodeur is 38, Arnott is 35, Langenbrunner is 35, Elias is 34, and Rolston is 37. Thankfully they have Parise, Zajac, and a pair of strong prospects in Tedenby and Josefson.

This is just me speculating, but Tomas Plekanec would be a great fit in Nashville.

Bob McKenzie: “May be busiest two weeks in NHL for trades since the lockout, outside of deadline days of course. Lots of teams looking to do big things.”

Jason Arnott has been traded back to NJ for prospect Matt Halischuk and a 2011 draft pick. Breakdown coming…

My thoughts: something has to give for the Flyers. This move is a precursor to at least one other move. Perhaps Coburn is on the move? Maybe Jeff Carter? A defense featuring a top five of Pronger, Timonen, Hamhuis, Coburn, and Carle would be unbelievable, but it would also count for about half of the salary cap.

Hamhuis’ fantasy value jumps up a bit in Philly, provided he signs a contract of course. They have two very even power play units, and he’d probably see some time on the second one. Nashville is a  much less talented team and the drop off from their top unit (Weber and Suter) to the second unit is pretty significant.

Just as I say that, Philadelphia has traded Ryan Parent to Nashville for the rights to Dan Hamhuis. Does Paul Holmgren have a way around the salary cap? Hamhuis will command at least $4 million. Perhaps this means Coburn is on the move?

Slow news day today…. The Entry Draft is less than a week away. The draft is completely wide open after the first two picks, which will make for a very interesting first round.

Dobber shares the results of his fantasy guide for the 2009-10 season.

Chicago and Tampa Bay will play an exhibition game at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg on September 22nd.  I know we have a lot of readers and members from the 'Peg – who will be checking this game out?

2010-11 will mark the first time in history that there will be 30 AHL clubs, meaning each NHL team will have its own affiliate to develop prospects.

The Blues signed Matt D'Agostini to an extension yesterday. He'll be in tough to make the club in any sort of scoring role in 2010-11. He is fast and has great hands, but hasn't been able to translate his OHL and AHL successes to the NHL level. The Blues have a TON of cap space (almost $30 million), so expect them to be busy over the next month or two.

The Blackhawks have been unable to sign Billy Sweatt to a contract, and it looks like will become a free agent on August 15th. Sweatt had a fantastic four year career at Colorado College and projects as a solid depth player at the NHL level. The Canucks signed Lee Sweatt, his older brother, to a contract last month.

I have said this before, and I’ll say it again. Whatever team drafts Jeff Skinner is going to be very, very happy. After the big two, he is the best pure goal scorer in the draft. Not big or fast, but he “gets” the game of hockey. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a team trade into the top 10 to make sure they get him.

Now is a great time to be a Lightning fan. A committed owner, a highly-regarded GM, and an innovative, eager head coach. A happy St. Louis also helps…

"We appreciate Mr. Vinik for taking our opinions into consideration before moving forward with his alterations to the ice and rink system," said Martin St. Louis.

From now until June 24th, Angus will be running a 2010 NHL Entry Draft contest. Send him an email of your first round mock. The entry that closest mirrors the first round on June 25th will win an autographed Shane Doan 8×10 photograph. The rules are simple – one through 30, send your picks. If you guess the correct player, earn one point. If you guess the correct player and the correct position, you will be awarded three points. For example, of your top five is Hall-Seguin-Fowler-Tarasenko-Gunbranson, and the NHL's top five picks are Hall-Seguin-Fowler-Gunbranson-Tarasenko, you will be given 11 points (three for Hall, Seguin, and Fowler in the correct position, and one for each of Tarasenko and Gunbranson for having them in the first round
