The Midseason Guide – buy it here – has been updated through today. I will update it one more time Thursday night. Today’s update: a KHL article on potential players coming over, and a one-page addendum covering all the hot streaks/injuries and Wolski trades that have happened in the past week.

Kyle Wellwood has signed a one-year contract with the Blues, per TSN. Do you think the Blues are just signing these guys to sucker other teams into claiming them off of waivers? That’s one way to make the competition worse. Very smart!

Kevin Shattenkirk missed last night’s contest with a foot injury and Jonas Holos took his place. Holos played just 11 minutes, though.

Chris Stewart is expected to partake in full practice today. If all goes well, I think we’ll see him early next week.

James Reimer, the latest hero in Leafland. JS Giguere was pretty good in the first few games of the season and Gustavsson has had three or four really good games. But then the other 25 games or so, the goaltending has been mediocre at best. So when a hotshot rookies comes up and wins three games – and gives up just two goals in his only loss – well, let’s just say the fans here are starting to drool. And for good reason – Reimer has been a top goalie in the system for a couple of years now, profiled extensively in the last number of Fantasy Prospect Reports. Giguere hasn’t been the same goalie for a couple of years now, and Gustavsson has had injuries stunt his development. When all three goalies are healthy, Reimer is playing well enough to stick. The name of the game in Toronto is playoffs and if an untested rookie is winning games, then that untested rookie is going to get the starts. I don’t know how long this will last, but I have a hunch that he stays for good and as such I would have no problem picking him up.

Dustin Jeffrey was recalled by the Penguins and played just over six minutes. He didn’t see a whole lot of ice time after taking a hooking penalty in the first.

The Pens carried a two goal lead into the final four minutes of the game when the Bruins rang off three quick goals – two on the PP.

With Chris Osgood out for 6-8 weeks, Joey MacDonald got the call and he got into the game when Jimmy Howard got the hook . I wouldn’t run out and grab him though.

Matt Duchene is a point-per-game player 43 games in. Nice. He’s working magic with Tomas Fleischmann. When Chris Stewart gets back, this team will be hard to beat.

Darryl Boyce, who’s not really a scorer at…any level, now has four points in six games for the Leafs during this recall. His lack of production at other levels is precisely why I wouldn’t recommend him no matter how hot he gets.

I just found out via the post-gazette that Jordan Staal has been playing with a cast on his hand. As long as that’s the case, expecting goal production from him is not very realistic. As a Staal owner, I actually feel a little better about that. Any excuse, you know?

Mike Cammalleri will not be in the lineup tonight due to illness, and tomorrow’s game is pretty doubtful.

Tomas Plekanec has but seven points in his last 15 games and just like that is on pace to barely sneak by the 60-point mark. So is it his fault Kostitsyn is slumping or vice versa? Who’s been watching Habs games? I’ve only seen one in the last three or four weeks.

Logan Couture also has just seven in his last 15. Like I said in my THN article about a month ago, he is too inconsistent to win the Calder. Then again, that’s probably the story for most rookies this year. This race is still wide open, but I still like Hall, Crawford and Stepan to give Skinner a run for his money.

Jan Mursak scored his first career NHL goal last night for the Wings. He and Tatar are each impressing during this call up. The Wings are in such good hands – will they ever start their decline? I thought all teams were on a success cycle? If so, Detroit’s cycle is the widest-ranging cycle in all of sports.

Alexander Semin will miss the next two games with a lower-body injury, as he did not accompany the team on their trip.

Alex Kovalev is out for a week with a knee injury. Who will step up and fill the void of being a complete unproductive waste of rink space? Who will take up a man-sized spot on the ice and contribute nothing to the Ottawa offense? A linesman, for one…

Brayden Schenn is among the WHLers traded at their trade deadline yesterday.

Dallas has placed Brandon Segal on waivers. The Isles have waived Jon Sim. Again.

Give Mikhail Grabovski 29 points in his last 30 games. And he’s dragging MacArthur and Kulemin along with him. MacArthur was the glue of that line in the first eight games or so, but then when he stopped scoring it has been Grabovski who has carried the line.

Jamie Benn – nice
