Kevin Poulin is out for the season as a result of that knee injury.
Malkin will indeed undergo surgery and will be sidelined until August.
Sami Salo has been recalled by the Canucks. I may have been too hard on him, but I don’t expect miracles, even if he’s healthy.
Alex Tanguay is out with a concussion. This news hurts his fantasy value, which was just creeping back up… Meanwhile, perhaps this will help shake things up enough for Rene Bourque to get rolling again. I say this as a Bourque owner in one league.
Matt Cooke’s Wheel of Discipline has stopped spinning and it landed on…four games!
Fantastic trade for the Leafs as they acquire Lupul – I’ll post an analysis immediately.
Tyler Seguin will be a healthy scratch tonight for the Bruins.
Anton Volchenkov has been suspended for three games for that elbow to the head. According to my suspension pro-rater, that indicates to me that Matt Cooke will get…6,400 games.
According to the Wheel of Discipline, Cooke will get a $200 fine. Stay tuned for the correct answer!
Calgary prospect Leland Irving now leads the AHL in wins with 21. He’s really turning his fantasy stock around.
Judging by Rich Hammond’s update, I would say that Marco Sturm will return to the Kings’ lineup tomorrow and that Scott Parse is about three weeks away.
Volchenkov will probably be suspended for this nasty elbow on Zach Boychuk (clip added below). Boychuk is apparently fine and will play Thursday, barring a setback.
Chris Kunitz missed yesterday’s contest and is day to day with an undisclosed injury. Man, the Pens are primed to make a move!
TG Fire and Ice indicates that Martin Brodeur will miss at least the next three games and indicates that he could miss much longer than that. Johan Hedberg is the man to ride, go get him!
Keith Ballard will miss about four weeks with his knee injury. And no, I don’t recommend rushing out and getting Band-Aid Boy Salo.
Michael Russo reports that Marek Zidlicky is getting closer to a return. I would expect him back within a week, possibly by this weekend.
Corey Crawford gets the start again tonight.
Valterri Filppula has a sprained MCL and will miss at least the next three games before being re-evaluated. Tomas Holmstrom will return to the lineup in his place.
My take on Sidney Crosby? He’s just being extra cautious – and the team is being extra cautious with him. Kid gloves (pun intended). Let me put it this way, if the team is on a 0-14-0 run, we would see Crosby playing right now. But the team is doing very well without him, so what’s the rush? My opinion.
Jonas Hiller has been placed on IR with “lightheadedness”. I hate it when teams dance around the word “concussion”. They try to pretty up the situation and it’s annoying to fantasy owners. It’s starting to look as though Ray Emery – if he puts in two strong AHL games – will be a very viable option for fantasy owners after all. Keep an eye on this situation.
Here is my THN article from yesterday on Phil Kessel, etc.
Kevin Poulin twisted his knee in warmups last night and couldn’t start the game. So Mikko Koskinen got his first NHL start. He was shaky in the beginning, seemed to settle down in the second before the bottom dropped out. But what choice do the Islanders have other than Garth Snow making a comeback? The right move for them would be to approach Philadelphia and ask them to put Michael Leighton on re-entry waivers.
Ryan Malone made his return for the Lightning, and didn’t get through the game after crashing into the net.
So did Thomas Vanek need Derek Roy out of the mix to start being a stud again? We haven’t seen this Vanek since he shocked us all back in 2007. That’s 22 points in his last 15 games. Roy has been out for 17 games.
Drew Stafford also tallied his second consecutive three-point night (along with Vanek).
After posting two assists in his season debut, Marc-Andre Bergeron was a minus-4. So now…the Lightning sees the other side of M.A.B.
Jordan Leopold at 31 points is now just two shy of his career high, set as a sophomore back in 2004.
Mattias Tedenby played just nine minutes, but he still managed a pair of goals last night. He’ll be a great player, probably by his third year. I think his breakout will be earlier than the usual fourth year that I preach.
Alex Semin played nearly 18 minutes in his return to action and led the Caps in shots with four, but he was pointless.
I’m banging my head on the desk right now. I had picked up Ben Eager after his trade, watching him play for three games for San Jose, saw zero numbers out of him, and dropped him. In four games since then he has three points, 11 PIM and 10 shots.
Setoguchi’s points streak is up to six games now.
Brutal. Matt Cooke – what more needs to be said? Look for four games, maybe?
Volchenkov on Boychuk. Suspension?
