Boston acquires Rich Peverley

Peverley

Fantasy Impact: The Boston Bruins have sent defenseman Mark Stuart and winger Blake Wheeler to Atlanta in exchange for center/winger Rich Peverley and towering defenseman Boris Valabik.

The Bruins get: In Peverley, the best player in the trade. He is a skilled and versatile forward who can plug various holes in the lineup. In Boston, he will probably center the third scoring line behind Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci. He is signed to an awesome contract ($1.3 million per, signed through 2011-12) as well. Boris Valabik hasn't lived up to his draft billing (10th overall). However, he can play spot duty on the PK and in a depth defensive role. He is probably eight or nine on Boston's depth chart.

The Thrashers get: An inconsistent winger (Wheeler), and a solid defensive defenseman. Any chance this precludes a Zach Bogosian trade? Wheeler can play wing and center, and he brings a lot of size to the league's biggest forward group. Wheeler will be given an opportunity to produce in Atlanta.

Fantasy Players Impacted:

Peverley goes to a better team but he moves down the depth chart. Wheeler should see top six minutes with Atlanta. Stuart and Valabik have zero fantasy value. Peverley will boost the offensive upside for Boston's depth wingers – Tyler Seguin being one.
