What an incredible hockey game.

Three points for Cody Eakin at the Mem Cup last night. Hell of a tournament to follow up a hell of a postseason. Eakin is a prospect who should be on your radar.

Is this the biggest game for the Bruins since 1979? How about since 2010? What is your take?

Boston prospect Jared Knight won a few awards at the London Knights season ending dinner. Interestingly, he won both top scorer and hardest worker. Not a bad combination.

Christian Ehrhoff will play next Wednesday in game one for the Canucks.

Minnesota signed the WHL’s best goaltender to an entry-level contract. Darcy Kuemper led the league in wins, GAA, shutouts, and save percentage with the Red Deer rebels. Along with Matt Hackett, the Wild have a solid stable of young ‘tenders.

Doug Weight retired yesterday – used to be a dominant center, one of the best in the league. Always loved the jersey tuck too – an underrated trend in hockey. Weight was a slick playmaker but hasn’t been fantasy relevant since the lockout.

Tomas Fleischmann is a UFA this summer. With his injury (he still hasn’t been cleared for exercising), it will be interesting to see if a team takes a chance on him. He fit in well with Colorado, and I could see him returning there.

Please bear with us as we go through some cosmetic changes. And the new banner is one we made several months ago – it is a placeholder until voting for players in the banner is complete. The nav. menu up top will soon be different and have drop options, and the nav menu on the left will soon go away (when the top menu is ready).

Prospects Report…. Out in a few days! This thing will help you become a dominant keeper league poolie. Identify the next Jeff Skinner before your opposition does.

Some past report profiles:

2009 – Kevin Shattenkirk:

Shattenkirk will still be an offensive stud for the Avs, but his defense made big strides over the past year. The team is also high on his intangibles such as leadership – which only bodes well for his certainty of making the league. As of press time, he still had not signed a pro contract, so it looks as though he will be in the NCAA for another year. The Avs will probably talk him out of going back for his final year and sign him at the end of the 2009-10 season, which means look for him in the fall of 2010.

Upside: No.1 power-play quarterback (15-50-65+, 60 PIM)

Certainty (NHLer; Upside): 95%; 30%

2009 – Jamie Benn:

Benn was very impressive in training camp, to the point where he opened the door to perhaps making the team this very fall. Back in junior, he dominated the WHL and he also had a strong WJC for Team Canada (six points in six games). As far as offense goes, he left teammate and Calgary prospect Mikael Backlund in the dust in the standings, so if that's a sign of things to come he's in great shape. Think James Neal, but more of a goal-scorer (that's saying a lot) and less physical. He has added 15 pounds in the past year, though, so even that could change. A fifth-round pick in 2007, Benn will probably play one year in the AHL before becoming an NHLer in 2010.

Upside: First-line winger, PP specialist (45-40-85, 90 PIM)

Certainty (NHLer; Upside): 85%; 30%

Manny Malhotra will play at some point in the Stanley Cup finals, according to a solid connection with the Canucks. His progression has been remarkable. I can't disclose where I got the information from, but the information I have gotten in the past has all been rock solid.

Buffalo signed Marcus "don't call me Nick" Foligno to an entry-level deal yesterday.

San Jose's injuries are released – not surprising there were so many injuries, especially with regards to Clowe and Pavelski. Noted playoff performers who just didn't have it against Vancouver.
