Fantasy Guide and Draft List now updated. Of note: Faulk, Couturier, Scheifele, Emery, Brule, Sykora, O’Sullivan, Weise, Perreault, Gardiner – big changes/additions. iPhone draft app to be updated tonight. Next update is one final one on Friday. Also, regarding the occasional person who has problems with a "corrupt file" – it's not. It's your browser, the file is fine. Some versions of Firefox struggle opening some versions of Adobe, or so I've learned over the past month.
I look at this as good news for Brett MacLean owners – he requested that he be put on waivers and the Coyotes obliged today. If there is a taker, then he stays in the NHL for the year. If not, well, that’s not so good news…
Look at this – I just add Riley Nash to the Guide on the weekend and he gets cut in favor of NINE defensemen. The Hurricanes will keep Ryan Murphy and Justin Faulk both. For now.
Dave Bolland is questionable for the opener with an upper body injury. Patrick Sharp is “ready” to go.
I’ll be on 1260 the Team today at 2:45 in Edmonton (so 4:45 ET)
Zach Parise has been named captain of the Devils. Statement on how hard they’ll try to keep him next year?
Stefan Elliott has been cut by the Avalanche. That’s one call where I feel he’ll be right back up again. Shortly. See last year’s Shattenkirk, Kevin for details.
Afternoon notes – The Kings have cut Slava Voynov, so I would expect that he’s had enough and is KHL bound. Truly undeserved…Carolina GM Jim Rutherford says that Justin Faulk is a Top 4 defenseman on his team. I wonder if they would have signed Kaberle had they known what they had in Faulk and Ryan Murphy? Just finished a little hockey pool draft with the fellas at The Hockey News office. I picked sixth and snagged Malkin. Crosby went 15th – almost getting to me in the second round…The Habs have cut Michael Blunden and claimed Blair Betts off of waivers.
The Flyers have sent Brayden Schenn to the AHL. Apparently, him playing just one AHL game chopts $1.7 million in bonuses off the cap, so I’m sure they will recall him after that one game. For now, Sean Couturier is on the squad. The team also cut Erik Gustafsson and they placed Blair Betts on waivers.
My Hockey News column yesterday takes a look at Ryan Nugent Hopkins, as well as other situations around the league.
According to the Tennessean, the Preds have gone with the same sets of lines for two straight days of practice. So here are you line combos for Game 1:
Legwand, with Colin Wilson and Craig Smith
Spaling, with Sergei Kostitsyn and Martin Erat
O'Reilly, with Tootoo and Halischuk
Geoffrion, with Smithson and Hornqvist
Of note – Smith and Smithson were move to the wing, Spaling wins the "winger lottery" and O'Reilly is stuck with checkers.
The Lighting have sent Dana Tyrell to the minors and will keep Brett Connolly with the big club. For at least nine games. Mattias Ohlund has been placed on IR.
