New Additions
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Edmonton Oilers – Shoulder – Day-to-Day
The Nuge simply blew a tire after catching a rut in the ice and fell awkwardly into the boards. RNH was seen with the team wearing a sling on his left shoulder but no word yet on the extent of the injury. For now, he is staying with the team on their road trip.
Matt Duchene, Colorado Avalanche, Knee – Indefinite
Duchene also caught a rut in the ice in a game against Phoenix on Thursday. When swelling goes down there may be an update, but for now the team is saying at least four weeks as a time frame, possibly more.
Jaromir Jagr, Philadelphia Flyers – Groin – Day-to-Day
Jagr left the Winter Classic game in the first period and has a mild left groin strain. GM Paul Holmgren announced the injury on Tuesday and said Jagr will miss seven to 10 days.
Tom Gilbert, Edmonton Oilers – Knee – Day-to-Day
Hawks Dan Carcillo was at it again as he dangerously shoved Tom Gilbert into the end boards. Carcillo received a five minute major and the game. Gilbert suffered a knee injury in the hit, but it does not seem to be serious as he is only listed as day-to-day.
Carcillo is suspended indefinitely pending a hearing with Shanahan. Here is the hit.
Dan Carcillo, Chicago Black hawks – Knee – Day-to-Day
In the same hit that caused Gilberts injury, karma bit Carcillo right back as he also suffered a knee injury. Also listed as day-to-day for now it will be interesting to see if the suspension overlaps the injury.
Sergei Gonchar, Ottawa Senators – Head – Day-to-Day
Gonchar took a puck in the head in warm up on Saturday night. He missed the game the game and was expected to be back in the line up on Monday but was a late scratch. He is expected back soon, but with puck in the head like symptoms, you just never know!
Jose Theodore, Florida Panthers – Knee – Week-to-Week
Theodore hurt his knee is Saturday's win over the Montreal Canadiens. It is not a serious injury and Florida announced he will be out a few weeks only.
Christian Ehrhoff, Buffalo Sabers – Undisclosed – Indefinite
Ehrhoff is out with an undisclosed injury he sustained in a fight with Troy Brouwer.
James Wisniewski, Columbus Blue Jackets – Broken Ankle – Six Weeks
Wisniewski blocked a shot and suffered a broken ankle. The injury does not require surgery fortunately, but it will keep him out of the line-up for the next six weeks.
Tyler Bozak, Toronto Maple Leafs – Shoulder – Indefinite
Bozak crashed hard into the boards at practice while on a road trip in Winnipeg. He was immediately placed on the IR by the Leafs. While the extent of the injury is yet to be disclosed, he is expected to miss a minimum of a week
Updates
Shea Weber, Nashville Predators – Concussion – Day-to-Day
Weber has resumed on ice skating and practicing with the team. The Preds will no doubt be overly cautious with his return but this is very promising. A reasonable forcast on his return is seven to 10 days.
Jeff Skinner, Carolina Hurricanes – Concussion – Day-to-Day
Skinner also has resumed skating with the team. Again expect him to be eased back into the line up as a precautionary measure, and barring any set backs he may return in the next seven to 10 days
Jacob Josefson, New Jersey Devils – Broken Clavicle – Indefinite
Josefson continues to make strides in his return from a serious injury and was in on ice practice on New Year's Day. In fact, he has been given clearance to participate in contact drills by doctors as soon as he feels ready. He has missed all but four games and will be back in games as soon as he is back to game shape.
Victor Hedman, Tampa Bay Lightning – Concussion – Indefinite
Hedman has been updated from an upper body injury, to a concussion and is now listed on the IR as indefinite.
Back In Action
Marc Staal, New York Rangers
Stall followed in his brothers foot steps and made his return from injury at the Winter Classic.
Nathan Gerbe, Buffalo Sabers
In his second game back from a concussion, Gerbe exploded with a three-point night.
Mike Green, Washington Capitals
Green made his long awaited return from groin injury Tuesday and picked up four penalty minutes.
Devon Setoguchi, Minnesota Wild
The Wild have been hit hard with injury this season, but with the return of Setoguchi (as well as Casey Wellman) Wednesday they have most of their key players in the lineup.
