When Iginla owners rolled out of bed on Thursday, they no doubt felt like a kid on Christmas morning. What better place for Iginla to be moved than Pittsburgh? Obviously this move is going to improve Iginla’s value on your fantasy hockey team, but to what degree? Today I am going to look inside the numbers to figure out how big of an effect this trade has on our latest Geek of the Week: Jarome Iginla.

Before we get going, I'd like to apologize for the technical difficulties last week. The platform here at Dobber is a little different than what I'm used to, so I ended up publishing multiple rough drafts when in fact I meant to be saving them. Here's hoping things go a bit more smoothly this time [...]

Valentin’s Day: Zykov Prepares for Draft

Zykov

Jonathan Briggins profiles a top prospect for the 2013 draft.

Playing in a town in northern Quebec generally means a player doesn’t get the media attention they would playing in a bigger junior city such as Halifax, London, or Portland.

Russian draft prospect Valentin Zykov plays for the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in a town of close to 29, 000 people located six hours north of Quebec City. Picking up the Michel Bergeron Trophy for Offensive Rookie of the Year in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League is one way to grab some attention, though.

  *   Ray Emery lost a game. Trust me, I am as shocked as you. He now has a 12-1 record in 2013.   * Jared Spurgeon had a hell of a game for the Wild, and he has been playing fantastic hockey for most of the season (he missed the first bit coming [...]

Anthony Lancione shares his thoughts on Saturday's best NHL matchups.

Good day poolies! After another strong slate of selections in my last column, I’m now at a 15-3 record in my past 3 Saturday six-packs! I hope you’ve been following my lead and padding your pockets a little to boot. This week, I hope for more of the same as we ride the hot streak into April.

Two Defensemen to Watch: Blacker and Barrie

Jesse Blacker

Andrew Schopp profiles two young defensemen with lots of upside.

Two 21-year-old defensive prospects from the 2009 NHL Draft got the call up to The Show this week for Colorado and Toronto. One, Tyson Barrie, saw more time in the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche after an unexpected demotion to the minors. The other, Jesse Blacker, has yet to make his NHL debut after being briefly called-up to the Toronto Maple Leafs from the Marlies earlier this week. Although at different stages of their development, both are solid defensemen with the ability to contribute offensively and have great fantasy upside as top four defensemen.

  *   Cam Atkinson had three points and nine shots on goal for the Jackets. He won’t be 100% until next season (high ankle sprains take forever to heal), but he has looked better in recent games.   Matt Calvert had two points and four shots on goal – one of my favorite young [...]

Cheap NHL Labor – Part 3

Tyson Barrie USA Today

Eric Daoust with some more fantasy hockey bargains.

This week we conclude a multi-part series that will cover many NHL players who are delivering good fantasy numbers at a bargain price in the shortened season. Obviously, the team that wins a league with a salary cap is the one that gets the best value out of every dollar allocated to its roster. This will include players who have a cost that is near the league minimum. Getting the most out of them can go a long way towards improving your chances of winning.
