The Saturday picks have been on point as of late. Can the trend continue?

We at DobberHockey are just climbing new heights here with this column, as Marty and I have hit on 10 of 12 picks since my last entry! On a personal level I'm on a career high going an impressive 20-4 run over my past four weekly pieces. Once again, I hope you've been playing some proline or better yet logging into your off-shore accounts and smashing down a few coins! Hehe.. Let's hope the good time keep-a-rollin!

Vancouver @ Colorado (3:00pm ET)

The Canucks roll into this one playing a red hot brand of hockey, etching their way closer to winning the Northwest Division. They've won their past four contests by a whopping 15-3 margin, and both netminders  are very capable of stealing the show, regardless if its Schneider, with two shutouts in his last three contests, or Luongo, who stepped in beautifully this week. The Avs, oh the poor Avs….. Giggy certainly did his best stab at whipping the young Colorado kids into shape having them take accountability for their recently sloppy and lackadaisical play. His pointed yet non-accusing words apparently mustered enough of a reaction out of them to finally win in impressive fashion in their next outing.

As you can see in the rankings put together here by Frozen Pools' By the Numbers, this is quite the mismatch, with the Bruins ranking in the top 10 in the NHL in every single major trackable team stat. Meanwhile, the Canes are situated in the bottom half of most of these rankable categories. You have to love the goal differential which literally pegs both teams at opposite side of the spectrum (Bruins= +25, Canes= -25). The Canes are mired in what is now back to back devastating seven game losing streaks, with one solitary win separating them. It’s been ugly.

The Penguins have now officially shook off a mini slump immediately after losing Crosby. They have won three straight games, and that is also without sniping star James Neal. They've scored eleven times in their past two outings, so the power outage feared without the two big guns has not been an issue with a scoring by committee approach with a dash of Malkin on the side. The Panthers remain in the "Ain't Winnin for MacKinnon" race with a tied-for-the-NHL-worst 42 point mark.

The BlueJackets aim to continue their 2^nd half surge to a playoff race, which has been slowed the past week (although they were sharp last night against the Blues). Bobrovsky's play has nearly single-handedly done the trick for Columbus. At  a mere three points back of the 8^th place divisional rival Red Wings, you can bet they'll be guns a-blazing down the stretch with newly acquired sniper Marian Gaborik.  However, the Wild are bound to wake up from futility sooner rather than later, and I peg the end of their hibernation to occur this weekend.

The Oil Kids were finally showing signs of coming of age a until around this time last week, with their offense clicking at a high rate. However, they've received a dose of reality losing four straight, and they are looking more and more likely to miss the playoffs yet again. They'll be trying their best to avoid yet another lottery pick as we approach the stretch run now, so expect the best from their stars. Calgary has been lackluster all season, and they are showing to be even worse without their deadline losses (Bouwmeester and Iginla).

The latest Battle of California pairing could see a real close cut affair, as the Kings took last year's season series by a wide 5-to-1 margin, while this year, the Ducks have really closed the gap with 2 of 3 victories against LA. The Ducks have really made a sensational turnaround this season getting themselves right back near the top of the conference, while the Kings have more or less silently made their way into a decent playoff spot in the middle of the pack, almost as eerily unassuming as they did last year before shellshocking everyone by saving their best for a glorious postseason campaign.
