The Fantasy Guide can be picked up online in pdf form for $9.99 – it comes with an updated spreadsheet, free. Updates are all free, download as often as you’d like. Last update was yesterday. Draft List was updated, too. And I figured out why some people didn’t get the fixes that I made last week so that’s settled now as well.

As noted in the comments below – Pekka Rinne, who had surgery on his hip in May, is still not skating. I would find it hard to imagine that the Preds would go out and sign a Bryzgalov, for example. But perhaps this is why the Jose Theodore to Boston is not done? He would be the right fit for the Preds. Can’t see Carter Hutton starting the first dozen games, if it comes to that.

Most of the people who buy my fantasy guide also buy the McKeen’s guide off newsstands (I can only wish it worked the other way around too). McKeen’s made public yesterday their decision to not print their guide this year. It will be available for sale online, instead. So for the most part in Ontario, unless you guys one of the “fly by night” fantasy guides that pop up on newsstands for a couple of years before they give up trying to break into the market – you’re stuck with me. There is the Forecaster, which I wrote about 200 player profiles. There is The Hockey News, which I contributed a column (back page). So just face the inevitable and buy my guide!

Alex Pietrangelo still does not have a contract, but he’s optimistic that he will be in training camp on time.

*

There is a very real chance that Kimmo Timonencould play another season after this one. He’ll be 39 years old for 2014-15 and his body is breaking down, but if he has a strong season it looks like he’ll come back for more.

The annual Traverse City prospects tournament begins next week. Here is a look at the group that Columbus is sending. Notables include Oscar Dansk, Michael Chaput, Boone Jenner and Ryan Murray. Find profiles – from a fantasy perspective – on all the Blue Jackets prospects right here.

Olympics coverage/notes have been strangely absent from the Ramblings, despite the fact that it’s all over the sports news in Canada. But that’s because I don’t care. Does it affect my fantasy hockey team? Then I don’t care. Unless, of course, one of my guys sprains an ankle. I’ll be on board when the Olympics start (yet I’ll still be fidgety because my team won’t be accruing any points).

Does anyone remember Marek Posmyk? I ran into his name when reviewing the transactions and it brought back memories. A high Leafs draft pick in 1996, he even ended up in my keeper league on one of the other teams for a year or two before being dropped. The soon-to-be 35-year-old defenseman never did get it going in North America. Anyway – memories of horrible Leafs drafting in the 90’s.

Now to discuss yesterday’s ramblings in which I outlined my thought process in a blockbuster deal that I recently put together.

I was asked why the other guy did the deal – he actually pulled off three deals in the same day. He stocked up on his picks (through me) and solidified his depth. Then he traded some of his future picks, good ones, for second overall. I think he did the deal because he likes Drouin better and figured he would still get him if he dropped down a spot in the draft. So he’s probably perturbed to hear that I’m not 100% on MacKinnon – only 80%.

I was asked if I respond to emails about players. I don’t. But I can ramble about them if you ask me to in the comments. I also tackle about seven or eight questions in the Hockey News mailbag, and I try to get at least half the questions asked to me on Twitter. I also go through the forum at least once a day and answer any posts with just one or zero replies (but that’s hard to find, the community is so good here).

Enjoy Angus’ ramblings the next two days – they’re his last two. Jeff has been a phenomenal part of DobberHockey almost from the beginning. After Third Degree Burns and Bugg Bytes, his article – Wild West – was the third piece I added. The guy didn’t miss a week. Eventually I gave him free run of the site with Angus Unleashed (posting whenever he liked) and he was my first phone call when I could afford to hire a manager. He’ll be missed. But hopefully I can twist his arm and get the odd ‘guest’ ramblings from him.

And Laidlaw was called away on work-related business and I’ll probably be covering some or all of his days early on. So expect to see a lot of me…

I celebrated MacKinnon yesterday, time to show you some Drouin. Watch. This. Shift. Wow:
