The fantasy impact of the Toronto Maple Leafs acquiring Peter Holland

Fantasy Impact: The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired Peter Holland and Brad Staubitz from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Jesse Blacker and draft picks.

The Leafs get: An inexperienced centerman in Holland that will help them out in the short-term, and possibly longer depending on how he pans out. Toronto has been decimated at center recently as Tyler Bozak and Dave Bolland are out for significant amounts of time with injuries, and Nazem Kadri is currently serving a three-game suspension.

Jay McClement is the only center that is available from the opening day roster, with Trevor Smith being called up and James van Riemsdyk being forced into the middle. Holland will get a chance to show what he can do while the Leafs get healthy and if he can make the most of his opportunity he could stick around for the rest of the campaign. However, it's going to be tough to supplant one of the aforementioned three without playing some very above average hockey.

Staubitz will reportedly be sent straight to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.

The Ducks get: A youngster in Blacker that has yet to live up to expectations. Toronto was once high on Blacker, but the former second-round pick has failed to appear in an NHL game and has just one point in five contests with the Marlies this season.

Anaheim also received a 2014 conditional third-round pick that could turn into a second rounder.

Fantasy Players Impacted: The main player who benefits here is Holland. He has only played in four games with the Ducks this season, but now finds himself reportedly playing with Joffrey Lupul and David Clarkson already on Saturday.

Again, how long he stays there is anyone's guess, but for the time being playing with those two makes him somewhat of an attractive option if he can hold his own. Holland is a former first-round pick who has some skill, so maybe Lupul and Clarkson can ignite his talents.

Holland is probably a downgrade right now for Lupul and Clarkson when compared to any of the three Leaf centers out of the lineup, so when Kadri returns shortly he might end up back between those two and Holland could slide down on the depth chart.

Holland should, however, get every opportunity to succeed with the Leafs being so desperate and if he plays extremely well it could even lead to van Riemsdyk returning to the wing when Kadri gets back, but that's a long shot.

Fantasy Players this helps, in order:

Peter Holland

Joffrey Lupul (until Kadri returns)

David Clarkson (until Kadri returns)

Fantasy Players this hurts, in order:

Trevor Smith

Jay McClement
