Let’s check in on the latest news regarding NHL injuries…

 

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year and hopefully a healthy finish to your hockey pool. Lets check out the latest injury news.

 

EASTERN CONFERENCE

 

Dennis Seidenberg (knee) tore both his ACL and MCL and is out for the season.


Loui Eriksson (concussion) is practicing with a green no-contact jersey but according to Boston Bruins head coach Claude Julien he is still a ways away from return.


Drew Stafford (upper body) left Thursday's game with an upper body injury and is out indefinitely.


Cody Hodgson (wrist) was placed on IR on Wednesday.


Ville Leino (lower body) left Tuesday's game with a lower body injury, no further update.


Riley Nash (lower body) could be out 7-10 days; according to Carolina Hurricanes head coach Kirk Muller.



Cam Ward (lower body) is expected to miss at least two games and that was tweeted before Thursday game, so count on him missing one more game.


Jiri Tlusty (abdomen) is out two-three weeks after having his appendix removed.


Matt Calvert (shoulder) was placed on IR on Wednesday.


Jack Skille (abdomen) was placed on IR today retroactive to Tuesday.


Dan DeKeyser (lower body) missed practice and is listed as day-to-day.


Darren Helm (groin) is day-to-day with a sore groin; according to Detroit Red Wings GM Ken Holland.


Jonas Gustavsson (groin) missed the Winter Classic due to a sore groin; he is listed as day-to-day.


Jonathan Ericsson (groin) is out three-five weeks with broken ribs.


Johan Franzen (concussion) is still not close to normal and remains out indefinitely.


Scottie Upshall (upper body) is expecting to make a return Saturday.


Erik Gudbranson (eye) is skating with a no-contact jersey and full cage.


Ed Jovanovski (hip) will make his season debut on Saturday.


Patrik Elias (upper body) avoided serious injury and is considered day-to-day.


Damien Brunner (knee) was placed on IR, retroactive to December 20.


Josh Bailey (upper body) is listed day-to-day with an upper body injury.


Chris Neil (leg) will not play Saturday.


Jason Spezza (hip) is making improvements but not ready to play yet, remains day-to-day.

Matt Read (upper body) remains out as he didn't play Thursday and is still day-to-day.


Evgeni Malkin (lower body) said his leg feels a bit weak and he's not completely pain free yet.


Pascal Dupuis (knee) could miss the rest of the season with a knee injury; according to Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma.


Kris Letang (upper body) is targeting a return on Sunday.


Paul Martin (lower body) says he will be healthy to play in the Olympics.


Sami Salo (upper body) will play either Friday or Sunday; according to Tampa Bay Lightning head coach John Cooper.


Steven Stamkos (leg) is skating in full gear at practice.


WESTERN CONFERENCE


Viktor Fasth (lower body) is still week-to-week, however there was no real update on twitter.


Lee Stempniak (flu) missed practice due to an illness but will play Friday.


P.A. Parenteau (knee) is out four-six weeks due to a knee injury.


Shawn Horcoff (flu) and Ray Whitney (flu) will return to the lineup but now it is Tyler Seguin (flu) and Rich Peverley (flu) the latest to be hit with the flu.


Sergei Gonchar (concussion) is getting close to a return, he is questionable for Saturday and looks like it will be the coach's decision.


Jonathan Quick (groin) was supposed to be assigned to Manchester for an AHL conditioning assignment but that has been cancelled due to a storm.


Josh Harding (MS) was not at optional skate and remains day-to-day.


Zach Parise (foot) is out four-six weeks with a stress fracture in his foot.


Pekka Rinne (hip) is expecting to get an update from the doctor next week according to Nashville Predators GM David Poile.


Oliver Ekman-Larsson (upper body) is feeling better and is questionable for Saturday; according to Phoenix Coyotes head coach Dave Tippett.


Shane Doan (illness) has been given clearance from the doctor and will play Saturday.


Tomas Hertl (knee) could miss between three-nine months to recover from knee injury.


Martin Havlat (lower body) was placed on IR on Tuesday.


Jaroslav Halak (illness) is day-to-day with an illness and will serve as Brian Elliott's back-up on Saturday.


David Backes (upper body) practiced on Friday and team will monitor him the rest of the day and is a possibility for Saturday.


Alex Steen (concussion) concussion is apparently due to three separate hits rather then one hit in particular.


Roberto Luongo (lower body) is ready to make a return just not sure when or if he will serve as a back-up for the first game back, however the Vancouver Canucks have re-assigned Jocaim Eriksson back to Utica.


Alexander Edler (knee) skated on Monday but no further update.
