Dobber Hockey’s own Dallas Guzzwell shares his journey to the Draft Street Hockey Championship

I hope you don't mind if I share my exciting news with all of you but I couldn't think of a better place where people would relate to my recent fantasy hockey journey.

When I started playing fantasy hockey six years ago, never in my wildest dreams did I believe it would lead to something so special. I remember reluctantly joining a fantasy league six years ago as a way to banter with a group of friends while being connected to the sport that we all love so much. Eventually the competitive fire kicked in and while trying to get an edge in my league I ended up at Dobberhockey – and 3,500 posts later I found myself as a writer for the site.

And now, somehow, my fantasy hockey travels have led me to the Draft Street Hockey Championship Final next week, with a chance to win $12,000. After playing (username dallasg11) most of the Draft Street Hockey Championship satellite qualifiers over the past two months, some good luck combined with the usual obsessing over statistics and player trends led to the right combinations of players. Believe it or not, I didn't get lucky just once, I got lucky twice. I managed to win two satellites and now hold two of the 20 championship seats and a decent chance at a nice payday.

The Championship is broken down into a two day preliminary this Monday and Tuesday. The top 10 entries then advance to the Final on Thursday. I won't lie, I'm feeling nervous, and in true Dobberhockey fashion I am going to ask all of you for some advice. Do I put two similar line ups in the preliminary or create two very different line-ups? My goal is to advance at least one entry to the Final on Thursday, and I don't want to get too greedy.

Any advice would be appreciated, but please forgive me for not sharing any winnings if I get lucky. Those will be going towards the bathroom renovation to appease my wife for supporting and putting up with my fantasy hockey addiction.

Keeping Karlsson Short Shifts – Thanks for Vejmelkmories

Elizabeth and Lewis reunite to bring you all the latest fantasy news and strategy, such as how our siblings would fare if called on to fill our roles like Owen Sillinger did for bro Cole. Then it’s onto news including coverage of the postponed CGY/LAK game and defensive injuries piling up in MIN and putting some strain on Gustavsson’s performance. Injuries and outjuries include a pair of goalies returning to their teams in Ingram and Shesterkin, as well as how Monahan’s wrist injury opens the door for big minutes for Fantilli. Finally, the pair touch on Voronkov and PLD’s hot streaks, and discuss John Carlson’s rollercoaster in light of Chychrun’s production.

Keeping Karlsson: Tuch Hunch

On this edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast mega-show, Elan and Brian tour every team, ranking a slate of the least bad goalies, noticing the wind in some Red Wings’ and Stars’ sails, dangling snoozer status above a pair of commonly rostered power-play quarterbacks, and rushing or strolling, accordingly, to some skaters on the up and up.
