Fantasy Impact: The Buffalo Sabres have traded prospect defenseman Brayden McNabb and two second-round draft picks to the Los Angeles Kings for prospect Hudson Fasching and Nicolas Deslauriers.
The Sabres get: a potential power forward in Fasching, who is coming along nicely though is still some years away. If you want a fantastic breakdown of what he has to offer – take a look here. They also get prospect defenseman Nic Deslauriers, a potential third-pairing blue-liner.
The Kings get: a big puck-moving defenseman who is probably NHL-ready right now. The Kings are really looking to add pop to the offense, even though the players seemed to score just fine at the Olympics (ahem – coaching). But at this point, McNabb is No.8 on the depth chart. Here is a great profile on McNabb – a must read.
Fantasy Players Impacted: McNabb couldn’t crack the Sabres blue line so there is no reason to think the Kings are any better. In fact, his odds took a hit here. Much will depend on if they re-sign pending UFA’s Willie Mitchell and Matt Greene (or they bring in a UFA). If the Kings let those guys walk, then this will benefit McNabb greatly.
Fasching leaves an organization that makes it extremely difficult for prospects to make the jump – and joins an organization that will welcome him with open arms.
Fantasy Players this helps, in order:
1. Fasching
For McNabb – depends (as noted above).
Fantasy Players this hurts, in order:
Nobody. For McNabb – depends.
