Fantasy Impact: The New York Islanders have found their backup, signing Chad Johnson to a two-year deal.

The Islanders get: one of the best backups on the market, which is perfect because Jaroslav Halak gets hurt a lot.

Fantasy Players Impacted: If Halak is healthy all season (odd are against it), he will play 65 games at the very least. But if it’s a typical Halak season, look for 50 to 55 games, which means Johnson will play 30 to 35. He’ll be valuable in spurts and definitely see more action than he did with Boston. This obviously means that the Isles will not pursue Miika Koskinen next year (KHL) and it pushes Kevin Poulin out of the mix.
