Fantasy Impact: The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed goaltender Thomas Greiss to a one-year deal worth $1 million.
The Penguins get: a 28-year-old experienced backup with a little upside.
Fantasy Players Impacted: Well, I’m not sure why they did this, since they already have Jeff Zatkoff. And while Greiss is an upgrade to Zatkoff, the upgrade isn’t that big. That about shuts the door on Zatkoff in the NHL. But at least with Greiss you have a goalie who could steal the No.1 job if Marc-Andre Fleury implodes. Whereas Zatkoff was really just a solid backup.
