What's up with Benn and Seguin?

Axeman's Grind

I am surprised there hasn't been more chatter about the slow start to Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn's season. So far after two games, neither of the budding superstars has been able to snipe a single point. Both are still shooting their fair share (Seguin has six SOG and Benn has five SOG) but are obviously feeling the heat as far as greater attention to their line from opposing teams. I don't think anyone in Dallas is panicking yet and neither should fantasy owners.  I read today that Lindy Ruff is moving Cody Eakin up to the top line to play on the wing with Benn and Seguin and hoping to throw some energy into the line. It will be interesting to see how that works out. I like Eakin as an energy guy but he is normally doing it from the middle, not on the wing. I don't see Ruff breaking up Seguin and Benn, at least not for the foreseeable future, but if they don't start getting the ball rolling, it may be something he considers short term to get a jump in their step.

Stay the course with Seguin and Benn.  They will find their groove soon enough.

Bruins sign Simon Gagne

Axeman's Grind

Desperate times call for desperate measures and right now, the Bruins are starting to look like a desperate hockey club. So desperate that the Bruins have signed FA Simon Gagne. He's been hanging around the club at the request of the Bruins as a "just in case".  I guess we now know why.

The offense has been stagnant to say the least, scoring a total of four goals in as many games. Guys like Lucic, Marchand, Hamilton, Krug and Chara are still looking for their first points of the season. Simon Gagne is not the answer to the pending question surrounding the Bruins scoring woes, not even close.

There is little doubt that the Bruins need a spark of some sort to get them rolling but Simon Gagne is not that spark. At this stage, you might as well continue to give the kids the ice time and let them find their way. If I were Chiarelli, I'd be recalling David Pastrnak and letting him learn the ropes. The kid damn near made the club out of training camp but was set back due to an injury to his shoulder. Pastrnak is a scorer; can he really be any worse that Simon Gagne?

So that's my take on some of the happenings that have gone on in fantasy hockey and the NHL in general. As always, comments are welcome. There were some great comments last week and I appreciate the feedback. We don't have to agree, we just have to get along.
