Fantasy Impact: The Penguins acquire Rob Klinkhammer in exchange for Philip Samuelsson.
The Penguins get: A gritty winger with a bit of scoring touch but most importantly a healthy body for their injury decimated lineup. They also get a conditional draft pick.
The Coyotes get: An eighth defenseman. The kind you keep in the minors for emergency call up purposes.
Fantasy Players Impacted: Anyone getting traded to the Penguins immediately gets a boost even if they are unlikely to play a major role. That's the reality of having two of the best players in the game. Everyone gets elevated through proximity.
This deal does open up a forward slot for Arizona to experiment with their long rumoured youth movement. They called up Jordan Martinook to fill Klinkhammer's roster spot but he doesn't offer much upside. The Coyotes do have some prospects, in Lucas Lessio and Philip's brother Henrik Samuelsson, skating in the AHL and offering more fantasy upside. This deal opens the door a little wider for them.
