Budget Plays

Centers

Nick Spaling $2,700 – I almost went with the "find the cheapest player for Tampa, he's sure to get two points" strategy with this pick. Cedric Paquette is down there at $2,500 if you want to give that method a shot. Even though he burned me on Thursday can you really avoid Nick Spaling here? The Pens top six has been ravaged by injuries and Spaling is playing alongside Sidney Crosby. The Senators are the fifth worst CF% teams on the road and the seventh worst scoring team at five-on-five. The Penguins are the third best team in scoring at five-on-five. Most of those goals of course were scored by guys not currently getting top six minutes. Either way Spaling is a dirt cheap price playing at home against a team who gives up a bunch of shots and skates alongside the best player on the planet. Sounds like a good flier play to me.

Wingers

Tomas Jurco $3,600 – Jurco has averaged 2.8 FPPG over his last 10 games. He has eight points in the last nine, and the Wings get a home game against the Rangers while avoiding Lundqvist in net. These are all positive signs for a Red Wings win. Jurco is getting third-line minutes with Riley Sheahan and Stephen Weiss but he's on the Wings top power-play unit. To top it off Jurco is currently second in the NHL at CF% at five-on-five at 61.7%. Don't be afraid to gamble with Jurco in this matchup.

Centers

Steven Stamkos $9,200 – I really think you could flip a coin between Stamkos and Seguin here. Seguin has 20 points in 14 home games and averages 6.3 FPPG and Stamkos has 19 points in 14 games and is averaging 5.5 FPPG at home, but elite numbers. I'll give the slight nod to Stammer here because Columbus is just that banged up right now. No injuries would surprise me anymore – maybe someone will strain their back shoveling snow soon. Is it snowing yet in Columbus?  Stamkos is coming off of a three-point night Thursday against Buffalo. Columbus is the very bottom team in the league in goals allowed per game. Conversely Tampa Bay is the highest scoring team in the league. You can't go wrong here once again.

Wingers

Jamie Benn $6,500 – I don't see any knee-jerk must plays at the very top of the board tonight. Benn has 14 points in 14 home games so far this year; including nine points in the last five game home stand in Dallas. They will also be facing the reeling Montreal Canadiens on the second half of a back to back. Benn's price has fallen to the point where you should strongly consider him in most of your cash game lineups tonight especially with some of the tougher matchups the higher priced wingers will have tonight.

Defensemen

Mark Giordano $6,100 – Almost every night I look at Giordano's price and think to myself "he's just priced too high, more scoring comes from the forwards, his numbers aren't sustainable." Usually by the end of the night he ends up getting in on the scoring. Currently the Sharks are just 8-8 on the road, and whatever magic fairy dust Bob Hartley is sprinkling on the Flames it's working. The underlying numbers are screaming for a regression. So this play is more of a "hunch" based on the Flames being at home against a Sharks team that has not played well on the road. The analytics aren't on your side in this matchup, but how else do you explain what the Flames have done through the first half of the year?

Goalie

Ben Bishop $8,700 – Bishop was won seven of his last eight starts and is 11-2 overall at home this season. His price if finally starting to rise to the upper echelon or pricing on Draft Kings, but tonight he will be worth every penny; with Tampa being the biggest favorites on the slate. The Lightning and Blue Jackets are at opposite ends of the spectrum of scoring at 5 on 5, and Columbus is near the bottom of the league in CF% on the road. All signs point to another big Bolts win here. Bishop is the cream of the crop at the goalie position.
